If a scanlation group doesn't release their translation to the public, imo it doesn't make sense to have them in the "Latest Release(s)" section. Nothing is being released to begin with, and it's highly confusing on top of that. So my suggestion is to remove this kind of "non-releases".

An example is Harudaki's non-releases for this series.

Agreed! Also, I just found another private group with releases listed on MU: Trash Explorer Scans, I looked at the group's tumblr and they don't update there anymore, they now update on a private website and, to have access to it, you have to be on their Discord server or email them requesting access. For example, I tried finding their Kokuhaku wa Yume no Naka de... chapter 1 release, and it's nowhere to be found (publicly, at least).

Imo these types of releases should be removed from MU like, seriously, what's the point of it being listed here if it's not publicly available?

They did that one as a April's Fools joke as well. I think the person that added the release here in MU didn't check their release because it was a joke, iirc.

Harudaki has been unreachably private for years. I agree their new releases shouldn't be added, but they should remain as a group with their old releases listed just for 'fandom' history purposes.

I see nothing wrong with that. It's helpful to have a directory that tells you when it's been updated, otherwise you have no idea it's been updated. Ik, the idea is that discord will inform you by notification, but when you're following 30+ scan groups not to mention other discords, it's a bit hard to follow.

Everyone possesses the ability to hide scanlation teams, if you don't want to read from the group itself, then hide the team. They're taking a small reasonable steps to protect themselves, it's not purely to inconvenience you. A discord channel isn't hard to follow. I think it would be different if mangaupdates didn't provide you with a way to find the releases, but all you have to do is click the group and see what they post on.

There was a team that was doing pw protection that you had to answer basically a scavenger hunt each chapter, beyond the discord and website authentication. That was bull. But they had their reasons, even if it was incredibly annoying.

I was member of private group with like <100. Even I see there's no point to announce to the world of you release when only less than 100 able to access. Private members should do their own due diligent themselves for release update.

Also, some group don't want to pick up project that already worked on so it killed potential public release for others interested scanlation groups.

I also seen private group got bitter people "snipping" their work when the they literally admitted they only release for friends, which (1) they shouldn't be upset about others working on the same work and (2) why even list/announce release here.

I agree. Allowing private releases seems to contradict the logic behind disallowing the "no group" releases, since both ultimately lack traceability for the general public, even at the time of release.

This is true, but the problem with Harudaki in particular is they aren't a hidden team, they are private and have been that way for years.

I've also submitted not private, but obscure releases before, only for them to be rejected because they were too hard to find(?), so I don't understand how their releases continue to be approved when their scanlations are presumably impossible to gain access to. Are the mods allowing private Harudaki releases as an exception to the rule, or are their releases technically public, but hard to locate on the net?

It would be nice to have some input from a mod on the issue, since the topic of Harudaki and private releases has been brought up multiple times without any official MU response.

I totally agree. Hope the mods look into this. I mean, in Harudaki's case there's like no mention of how we can access their group. I don't mind what Trash Explorer Scans does because they clearly mention on their site that we only need to DM our email address to access their releases.

However, I think there's a difference between Harudaki and Trash Explorer Scans. While there's no way to access Harudaki's releases. it is possible to access Trash Explorer Scans just by sending them a request on Discord. Maybe it's not public, but it is easily accessible for those interested.

Maybe that should be taken into account too.

Just a suggestion.

Totally agree with the suggestion, mainly for the reasons stated by kihi here.

By the way, are SaltyPotatoesTrans also private, or are they just hidden?

I use Harudaki so it will be nice to see the release and see what I can read from them. They are private and you need to message them and ask if you can join or not.

Where can we message them?
