I haven't exactly read Kodomo no Jikan because it's not really my style but I remember reading something extremely similar to it last year. (I can't really do a compare and contrast since I haven't read this one.)

There's a little girl who is still in elementary school and she's in love with this older guy and will constantly skip school to visit him at his work. (Her teacher would always come find her and drag her back to class though.) I think her teacher and the guy liked each other? She also has two close friends, one that had a huge father complex and the other was.. just strange. The other one had straight across bangs who always had a blank stare/expression on her face and was almost always in a costume. I think the class might have gone to get swimming lessons or something and the blank face girl dressed up in either a lobster or fish costume (it didn't help her swimming skills though.) Oh! Another scene I remember in this book was a fire drill. The students had to practice taking a slide or something down from the window and the teacher was afraid to go in but wouldn't admit that to her class. Later after they realized that the blank face girl was missing, they found her on the roof (I think she might've been holding a bell or something.) Sorry for all of that, I just really want to find this again.

*Oh! Another scene I remember! The students were working on sketches and the blank face girl drew her own hand holding the pencil. (Like she kept holding her drawing hand away from her so that you would think she was deeply concentrating on drawing something in the background but she was actually just concentrating on how her hand looked.)
