Wii - RPG
Long story short, I got a Wii from my friends for my graduation. And I need some suggestions for games (I'm not touching a console since probably 5-6 years 🤢 ). The only games I used to play are RPGs and my tastes are these ones of a very nostalgic player (SNES/PSX era). I was quite convinced in getting FF Crystal chronicles echoes of time (while crystal bearers didn't seem any good according to what I read, and the same applies for ToS: dawn of the new world), but I'd like to hear some opinion first. And of course feel free to recommend me other games.
Just to give a glimpse of my tastes I think ffx-2 is the most retarted game ever planned and ff6/7 are the best. Also not a big fan of mixed genre (action/rpg or tactic/rpg, unless it's something like Tales of or Star Ocean battle system). But since there are so few games and don't know were to look I'm opened to listen to evrything.
Also I think it's possible to play GC games on the wii right? If so I'm opened to those games too (btw I live in Europe, so avoid games that are not possible to get here if possible thanks).
Thx in advance.

I personally like the game Arc Rise Fantasia that came out about a month ago. It was made by the developers of the first ToS so the gameplay is pretty good as well as the designs but the battle system is turn-based and the storyline is a bit lacking.
many characters split off for no apparent reason and the personalities are weak The voice acting for almost all the characters suck as well. I still like it though.
Monster Hunter Tri is also a pretty good game where you basically have a single base where you rest, manage your inventory, and forge stuff and the rest of the game is going to different regions to kill monsters. It's actually really addicting and you get into it. There are also several types of weapons and you can customize your character from scratch (face, body, hair, clothes, etc.)
Red Steel 2 is a slash them all game where a sword is heavily emphasized. It is much better than the prequel and has no connection to it whatsoever (because the first one was so bad). It does however need the Wii MotionPlus accessory but that's what makes it good. When you use the accessory it has 1:1 movement with the sword on the screen. Practically no storyline though, its just a sword game.
The last good RPG games i can remember are No More Heroes 1 & 2. The first one is a game where you have a lightsaber and kill off the top ten assassins in the world. You can do whatever you want in between the killings because you live in the middle of a fictional town. So it's basically sidequesting there. The second one i haven't personally played but many of my friends say it has more story and it's cooler. Plus you fight 100 assassins instead of 10.
As a side note, two "chill" RPG games are Rune Factory Frontier and Sakura Wars. Both have are about fighting, one with any weapon you can forge and the other with mecha, and have a little bit of sim dating as well. I sorta enjoyed both but Rune Factory Frontier moves in real time so if you can't stand slow games don't play it. As i said, these are both REALLY "chill" games.

The virtual console is probably the best way to go for traditional rpgs

Arc Rise Fantasia is not announced for Europe for now, so I'll evenutally look at the right time.
Monster Hunter Tri seems nice, I'll look more into it.
Red Steel 2 seems the kind of game I really dislike, so I'll pass on that. Not a fan of hack/slash. Same applies for No More Heroes.
Rune Factory Frontier doesn't seem as good as Little King's Story for example, at least according to what I read. Is it really worth?
The only thing who pulls me off to buy Sakura Wars is that I read that the European Wii version only has english voices. 😢

Yeah, but I already played all the worthy ones on emulators, I'm asking for games of the last decade.
Thx for the suggestions so far. 🙂

I've heard good things about Fire Emblem 10 (Radiant Dawn), 'cept it's a tactics RPG but the plot+characters are supposedly really well developed (as with many fire emblem games as of late).
TOS2 😀 oNW isn't as bad as the reviews say, the plot lacks a lot of the original's originality and it is kinda like pokémon (which, may I note, is an older RPG) but it's not a terrible game, just not as good compared to TOS1.
As for GC games, I've heard good things about Skies of Arcadia:Legends and the Baiten Kaitos series, but I've never played either, so you could look up some reviews...though they're impossible to get a hold of even in NA...

Since you've brought up Tales of Symphonia 2, and lightly mentioned the first game, the first is available for gamecube and quite enjoyable.
I've also heard good things about Skies of Arcadia, but I also haven't played it. As for Baiten Kaitos, I HAVE played it. It's pretty boring, and uses an annoying card draw battle system. I didn't think it was anything special.
I liked Rune Factory Frontier, but it's biggest problems are the Runey system, which isn't as easy to balance as it should be (It's rather tedious, unfortunately, and also necessary). The marriage events can be rather cryptic when trying to figure out what to do, as well, but that's not unusual for dating sim type games. Erm... Like I said, I liked it, but if you want to get into the series, a better choice would probably be the Nintendo DS Rune Factory games, and you could get Rune Factory Frontier if you were still interested. In THAT case, Rune Factory 2 has a lot of cool features above the first Rune Factory, but you basically have to wait until you get married and have a kid for everything to open up (including the game's main plot).
Last thing I'll say about the Rune Factory Series: The first game is called "A Fantasy Harvest Moon" for a reason. They're farming games first, and RPGs second. I like taking my hoe into the field and working up a sweat (yay for double entendre!) but if you want to play an RPG, you might want to look somewhere else.

Personally, I think Okami was one of the best games ever made for the Wii. Especially if you like Japanese folklore. It is an RPG, albeit not a traditional one. (You play a demi-god wolf) But your wolf levels up and gains new powers.
I wish they'd make a sequel. 😃

I'll have to look this one up. Harvest Moon was an ooooold favorite.
Thanks for the suggestions so far. If you know other games, plz let me know them. 🙂
