Is it actually allowed to add Indonesian indie comics to MU?
Based on my interpretation of this rule point two, indie comics are not allowed, as doujin = indie.
Most of Indonesian comic artist are doing the indie way, as the established publisher are afraid to publish comic unless its targeted towards children or already based on popular IP. Usually only taking genre like romance, slice of life, sports, mystety, or martial arts.
Other genre like sci-fi, thriller, mature, or niche theme usually get released on local event such as Comifuro, Comipara, or Pesta Komik.
There are less 30 physical releases per year from established publisher (excluding children comic), while there are hundreds of indie release every year.
If MU allow them, it will be a good way to introduce them for wider audience as well as track them before long gone and forgotten.
Some notable works:
- Apple to Orange, MangaPlus Bronze award winner, currently released as indie up to volume 2.
- Pupus Putus Sekolah, serialized on Naver Webtoon Indonesia, physical release as indie comics. Officially selected in government list as child-friendly reading material (already on MU)
- NOT AVAILABLE, physical-only indie cosmic horror, has chapter with same author as Apple to Orange.
- Al Caddia, upcoming physical only cyberpunk indie comic.
I hope there will be some consideration for this. Thank you!
