If you were to find your one true love, but found out they only had a year to live, would you still want to fall in love with them?

As if I made that embarrassing typo in the title, my bad. smacks head now people will think I have bad grammar.

I would think that I'd still want to, although I lack the personal experience to give that kind of love any descriptive words. I read a book not too long ago, however, about two friends in that situation - one had been diagnosed with cancer. It was quite moving.

As Tennyson put it -

  • 'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.*

This reminds me of TITANIC, because I've just watched it, and what if Jack Dawson never got on the ship that sank; he said it was the best thing that ever happened to him, even as he was about to die, and I agree with him. Spending just a minute with the one you love surpasses all else.

lol, trust me, half the people here won't notice.

As much as I hate to say this, I would say no. My problem is I get too attached to people I care for; be it friends, family, boyfriend. And when things don't work out, I get depressed far too long I need to be on meds to help me get out of it. It's pathetic but if I met the perfect guy for me, and he has only a year to live, I think I'd save myself from that pain I'm sure I won't get out of.

If I would find a true love. I would fall in love no matter what. Even though it will break my heart when my beloved one dies. Because love can't be stopped

One true love? Of course I´d fall in love with him, even if it´s for a short time. When it´s your true love, EVERY. SECOND. COUNTS!

Wouldn't.

I don't believe in destined lovers and all that occult crap.
You stop believing in stuff like that with age.
It would take a longer time than a year for me to even fall in love
with someone. No, I don't count crushes as love.
I'd rather not get involved too deeply with them on that level.
Assuming I would still fall in love without my consent with a person
like that, it's too late to run away from those feeling already.
It will hurt no matter what by then. Though as I said, I don't fall
in love easily. Takes more than a pretty face. I need to be able
to place my trust in them for starters and that won't come easy.

Of course. It's a different story if it's a love found by logic, but if it's the one true love I'll have? Yea sure, if I loved him I'll fall for him one way or the other. I'm not really someone who thinks death too hard from the start anyways.

But than again, that's build on the condition that I actually love him. Never went past the liking from a friendship level for me. I highly doubt I'll love someone in the future as well. For starters... does love even exist?

I kept telling myself that I didn't believe in love and then one day I fell in love. I'm guessing you're fairly young? I mean I didn't have my first experience until I was 16 or 17, which makes me feel like a really late bloomer, but whatever.

I will give it to you that I'm not convinced one true loves exist. I think I was more heartbroken over the realization that people can fall out of love than anything that guy ever did to me.

i don't think that "one true love" exist, even if u meet someone that moves u enough to try and spend ur life with him is not considered "love" until you truly stay with that person as time goes not ending in separation or divorce (if u marry) which is very common in these days, in these case i say yes, i would stay with him.

in case i just know him....no way... believe me, there's nothing romantic in seeing how a person you care is just skin and bones, vomiting blood, and crying of pain day and night even when is drugged... i rather not see that part of "my true love"

I'm pretty sure all 15-20yr old would say "yes"
20-25 would choose "may be, if..."
and after 25 u would think it over and over until the whole year passes....LOL 😁

Meh. I've been in too many relationships, good and bad, to believe in "ONE" true love...

Truth is, there are MANY fish in the sea.

Or, more diplomatically... there are so many people in this world who are actually very nice and wonderful and would be able to make you happy. Happiness is NOT that hard to find.

And... let's be frank... for those who decide to go for it in this case, how many of them are thinking "and once he/she is dead, I will move on and eventually find someone else" and how many of you are thinking "and I will never love again"

Personally, I wouldn't get into that sort of relationship... for many reasons. Firstly, I'm not young anymore, and I'm more looking for a permanent relationship than short term romances. Secondly, I'd be confused. In past relationships, I try to go 50-50 in terms of deciding who gets to do what they want. Like weekend plans, or holidays, or dinner, or whatever. But if someone only has 1 year to live, shouldn't they get whatever they want? ... too hard to think about. Rather not do it.

EDIT: But, the title says "if you're lover had one year to live"... now, on the other hand, if someone I loved and was already in a relationship with, suddenly was diagnosed with cancer, I would stay on with them until their last day.

Somehow, it's a totally different case? To me anyway...

If my true love had one year to live, I'd only have one year to live. I'd want to meet that person anyway and if soul mates exist, I'd refuse to live without mine once we'd met.

That's only a guess, but I know myself and I don't think I could take it. lol
