I don't know how many people have even heard of this, but it's one of my favorite manga now. It tends to go on a bit with details, but you can tell the author really enjoys and is faithful to the original story (up to a point). The language is a bit modern in the Japanese but I think the spirit of it comes through pretty well. It's kinda fun seeing a Westerner's look at Japan through the eyes of a Japanese writer.
I just know it's gonna take at least 7 volumes before she actually gets to Hokkaido at this rate.
