I think that you are referring to the manga called "Nana". It is a guitar anime and manga.

Hm, this is difficult. Most heroines with guitars end up in a band at one point. The only one I can think of that kind of fits is Benten Rock Yuu., though I've read only volume one, so I can't guarantee that she doesn't join a band later on.
