Yeah, all the choices are a bit weird, at least with the question posed the way it is. Like a small group of thug-like people start walking towards me, and that means they intend to harm me and my friends? I'd be pretty confused if my friends and I (dressed in a thugly way) started walking towards some people, and they all spontaneously ran away, or called 911. It ought to be, "You're with some friends, and some thugs threaten you."

Anyway, it depends on how many people the thugs have and how many people we have. I chose the "Run away with all your friends" opinion anyway cause it's happened to me and my friends before. It was 3 of us and 11 of them, so what do you expect?

I would run away with all my friends, since my friends are there. I don't want them to get hurt or anything. If I was alone, I'd probably just keep my distance and ignore them but if I must defend myself I will.

Against superior numbers, run. I'm too fat and old to go toe to toe against a half dozen punks on my own and my friends ain't much better. Against equal or less, attack first.

Real life or manga, dumb thugs like to try to intimidate their opponents often leaving themselves wide open for an attack. Surprise is key. Timing a groin shot, neck strike or eye gouge at that moment is one's best chance at disabling the bastard. If they seem to be experienced, it would be better to resort to more vile and lethal tactics. Ear/nose biting, improvised pointed weapons and frenzied unintelligible war cries tend to be enough to put anyone off. The more viscous it is, the more likely the punk's friends will hesitate from shock or act to make certain the fellow moron is alive. This gives one enough time to either take out another moron or break off and get the hell out of there. In any case, be ready to take a punch. The first one probably won't get you, the second one might not but three or more and you're in trouble without good backup.

Of course if the guy was trying to intimidate you with a gun, it would probably be best to just give up your wallet and hope the crackhead doesn't shoot. Real life really does tend to be far harsher than manga.

apparently many people choose to run... fwi thugs are human too.. and we still dunno why they approach us in the first place.. maybe they just passing through... maybe they are lost and asking for direction..
and then there are those who think they're brave and strong enough to protect others.. show off... bet you'll end up pass out later

ditch your friends and just run? you do realize if you do that than you'll be the one end up being alone imagine if those thugs chase you up an leave your friends alone..

Well this has actually happened to me, so many times.... Usually I take out my pocket knife, and put my keys in between my fingers (I call this the raptor claw, sometimes I make noises), then I step in front of my friends, because they are pretty oblivous and have a less ferocious glare than me. Then I continue on my way and see if they try to attack, they usually don't but if they do yo uhave to be assertive and tell them to back off, politely. If they keep coming at me then I punch them with my raptor claw and make my friends run away and call the police (discretely). None of them have had a gun but if they did I would be the distraction... while my friends left I would probably start blubbering, and just listen to whatever they tell me...... the most valuable thing I ever have on me is my pocketknife... I don't carry money...

Dude you have never been in a fight before and this might the lamest attempt I have ever seen to lie about it. Do you honestly believe that's the way things happen in reality? Have you ever been in any kind of physical altercation ever? I dont mean to rip on you, but if this is how you think criminals act, then you better hope to god you never actually piss any of these dudes off. You need to stop reading comics because they are skewing your perception.

But if they have mad skills (which is not too easy to see) or similarly mad weapons (and can use them), I rather distract them and run for it.
I am a slow runner, though...would have to run fast enough to win due to endurance.
Sometimes, the right attitude can prevent a lot. If not: running is the better choice.
