Awhile ago there was an option for searching the description.

Was it removed intentionally? If so, why?

Global Search.. I don't remember much about it, but did it just search every field for you automatically? How broken is it at the moment?

You can still search by description. Instead of global searching you have to choose either title or description by the search series option.
