Well i've been a huge fan of Oblivion and Fallout for years and as the only game i'd played from Bioware was Baldur's Gate, which i didn't like runs from lynch mob, i always thought Bethesda the better developer... that is until Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect came along.

Now i'm honestly not sure which I prefer and it got me to wondering what people here thought. Make your case 😛

Never played anything developed or published by Bethesda aside from Fallout 3 so excuse my bias. 😛

I like both of them a lot, but Bethesda holds a special place in my heart. 🤣

I like Oblivion but recently Bioware has been making some quality games and I'm really anticipating the release of SWTOR so i'll give bioware the edge

Bioware really works on developing their characters and making you feel like part of the story. Bethesda games are fun but I find them to get overwhelming with all the stuff one can do at once. So Bioware for me.

Honestly, I really think that Oblivion and Fallout 3 are over-hyped blobs of game. Fallout 3 is an improvement over Oblivion, so I do think Bethesda is heading in a good direction, but the studio seems off track. I'd appreciate it if they got away from the "expansive sand box do anything" design and concentrated on filling the areas they created with interesting stuff, instead. Too much empty space...

I still enjoy Bioware games very much, so their developers gets my vote, but I don't think it's really a good idea to compare the studios because the games feel very different.

I prefer neither as (overall) RPG developers but as Western RPG developers, I like the stuff BioWare does more than Bethesda. I have not played a BioWare game yet (even though I own 4 of their games) but from what I got out of Fallout 3 and Oblivion, Bethesda games are okay but not great.

The thing about Bethesda games is that they basically require user-made mods to expand the game into something more in order to be what I'd consider "great". I mean the fact they provide the tools to make the mods is nice, but it would be even nicer if they'd also work to make sure their games aren't broken on release.

I'd side with Bioware. If your not going to do a major story based RPG like KOTOR or Mass Effect then it has to be a loot whoring RPG. I'm a fan of Morrowind and Fallout 1&2, but Oblivion and Fallout 3 fell short for me. If Bethesda had used a random weapon generator and level based system weapon/enemy system like the one in Borderlands I wouldn't have put down Oblivion even with its overwhelming sand-box world. As it was, quests weren't as much fun as those from Morrowind and fighting left me feeling unsatisfied as the rewards weren't that great. Plus its better to limit the world by difficulty as it was in Morrowind rather than have most enemies level up with you as in Oblivion. For Fallout 3 they had a good world to work with but the fact that I couldn't use the VATS system without being able to turn of the slow motion 3rd person camera shots (which slowed down the gameplay too much) and the 1st person shooting aspect without VATS was clumsy, as well as the level of damage for most weapons was too exaggerated (my pistol blew guys away as if it was a bazooka, hell, make me work a little for a more satisfying kill) it just brought done the level of enjoyment for me.

I absolutely love both companies and I've played just about every game each has put out. My vote goes to Bethesda because I can replay there games over and over while Bioware is more of a one or two time thing for me before it gets boring.
