Grateful Dead - Casey Jones

Driving that train, high on cocaine,
Casey jones is ready, watch your speed.
Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.

Never heard that one. Not a big 'dead' fan.

But that made me think of "John Henry", the folk song.

Since I was supremely bored, I decided to look for train songs from bands I like. This is what I found:

Train Under Water (Bright Eyes)

If the Brakeman Turns My Way (Bright Eyes)

Railway Ties (The Great Lakes Myth Society)

The Engine Driver (The Decemberists)- not really about trains, but the first verse is about an engine driver.

From (Dr. Dog) - from an album not quite out yet, but the chorus lyrics are about a "choo-choo train"

A Witch's Web (Trail of Dead) - "You missed the train and now you're gone/ To join the faceless everyone"

The Grey Estates (Wolf Parade) - "Darling please, let's get out of here/ On a train to who knows where"

Gone For God (The Shins) - "Untie me, I've said no vows/ The train is getting way too loud"

Woke Up New (The Mountain Goats) - "and the world in its cold way started coming alive/ and I stood there like a businessman waiting for a train/ and I got ready for the future to arrive."

"Trainride in Russia" from U.D.O.
Funny song about how this heavy metal group spent their time in Russia.

Another good one that's a little old is "Ghost Train" by Counting Crows. Although, I suppose it's more of a metaphorical train...

Runaway Train / by [dunno]

"runaway train never going back, wrong way on a one way truck..."

and there's this 70s or 80s song that goes:

"choo choo train a 'chuggin' down the track... one way ticket to the blues..."

Trains always make me think about this song (sorry very probably only Italians know him).

Do you know what people did in the old days when they had secrets they didn't want to share?

They'd climb a mountain, find a tree, carve a hole in it, whisper the secret into the hole and cover it up with mud. That way, nobody else would ever learn the secret...
