Ever heard of Windows 7? Its a new OS or rather maybe the next OS Microsoft were working on after Vista. Apparently, its release candidate is up for download at the website from today....some features are removed but hopefully its faster than Vista, doesnt look much different though..Your thoughts?

Tried the Release Candidate yesterday (my timezone).

Already discussed this in a convo with some of the members here, so I'll just cut and paste what I said there

"I honestly don't see anything to warrant the hype. The desktop effects were done on Linux and OSX long ago, so I honestly dunno why the MS humpers are getting hard-on? It still feels like a Vista service pack, like I predicted. >_>... It still an archaic default journaling system (massive file fragmentation in 2009?...wtf?!!) , it still has a bloated kernel thanks to legacy requirements, it still trashes the disk way too much...etc."

It does seem slightly more streamlined than that bastard Vista, but not by much. I have an fast Intel SSD on my desktop, and Win 7's so called "SSD optimizations" still don't make it perform as fast as my current Linux based OS.

The "XP mode" would seem appealing to some, but I didn't really bother to test it out.

I'll stick to Linux for my artwork and programming and OSX for my printing and colour management. I don't play games on the computer, so I don't really have a need to adopt windows.

Well, Vista was such a disappointment in space and speed that I was hoping that this would at least be a lighter version but it doesnt seem much better than off than Vista, XP still rules over both I c.. ur right, there doesnt seem the need to hype this...gloom

Windows is faster than Vista but at least a factor of 3. It has many many features which make Vista look like an Idiot out of a Cardboard Box.

Windows 7 has a good feel to it's interface, though the release candidate has some issues with certain softwares (like Daemon Tools Lite, it won't install no matter what), but they are gonna be absent in the final release hopefully.

Windows 7 is the best windows OS I've come to use so far. And I hope I'll end up using it as soon as the final release is out... 🙂

But... 😐

I'm not gonna leave Linux, and I won't stop rooting for Linux either. Despite new interface, faster work, less load on computer, more ease of use, of Windows 7 as compared to Vista, I find Linux's Interface more appealing than ever or anything out there... It's still faster than Win7, more appealing UI, and has everything that I have to work with 🙂
