barbie. and pretty is an opinion. in some countries fat women are considered beautiful because it means they are well fed.

In my opinion, when you look at something like a work of art say, or a picture of a scene, you look for visual cues that instill a certain emotion, memory or thought. In our culture, the need to feel pretty is to instill in other people a sense of worth, a sense of acceptance by, at the same time, standing out. It's for the same reason boys feel the need to be masculine. Many societies have always upheld the notion that beauty is power. I think this can be positive and negative. When you feel pretty because you've grown into yourself, become the truly perfect and unperfect person you are, that is powerful in a positive way. On the other hand, beauty can be bestowed on those who realize it in the shallowest sense.

It's not to show off (at least not for me), it's for self-confidence~ which is what you need to survive in this world.

looking pretty isnt just putting make up on and fitting in 🤨
looking pretty for a girl is everything because looks are all that we usually can boast about. a good personality too, yea.
but i think looking pretty nowadays means fitting in with the 'in' crowd and denying your own wishes.
There are a lot of forms of 'pretty' depending on the country and time. 😃
girls are more likely to be bullied because of their looks so like the others say, it's to be noticed, to be popular and what's wrong with wanting to be pretty for your crush/boyfriend? 😁
Though, one thing I strongly believe in:
