As the title indicates i'm trying to reproduce a movie in vlc and i already have the subtitles for it (.srt). But i can't get it to work 🙁 how do i reproduce the film with the external subtitles on vlc (if possible) 😕 ?

Don't use "quick open file" when opening it, use "open file" then check the "use a subtitle file" box. It's pretty straighforwad.
i'm surprised other people use that XD. i'm the only one in a 50 mile radius who knows about that program, i think. ><

Really? I thought almost everyone (anime-watching-people) uses it. It plays almost everything.

I've been using ZoomPlayer for everything with no problems at all; does VLC have some advantage?

aside from playing the odd file that MPC doesn't like, i don't really like VLC. It's more complicated than it ought to be, and i hate the seek bar...

Don't bother while opening the file.
'Drag and drop' simply...open the movie in vlc, take the subtitles file and drop it on vlc window. It works even in older versions.

I use zoom when the subtitles are embedded. It's the best.
If you have to add subtitles you should use vlc. if you have the subs in a txt, just make sure that the file is in the same folder or directory as the vid file. Then when you open the program yuou can select options and there should be a subtitles mode that you can select your txt doc.
This is written from memory as I haven't done it in a while and I'm not at muy hoime computer, but it should work like this more or less.

Zoom works fine with soft subs (separate subtitle file) as well~ Just have to be sure the sub file & the video file have the same name (aside from the .whatever) and it plays 'em just fine.
I think I still have VLC on my comp at home, but haven't needed anything but Zoom for a long time. 😃

Yeah, I use Zoom for almost everything. It plays every tyoe of file I've come across except once last year. I was trying to play an .mkv and Zoomkept corrupting it and I had to go back to VLC.
Now that I know how to run the subs like that, I don't think I will ever use the vlc again...

Fansubbers seem to hate vlc because it has low support for .mkv (Softsubs in general basically) and they say .mkv is really sweet (I hate Softsubs... >:-( ) but yup I love VLC, works sweet, only thing it doesn't play for me is .rmvb because i don't wanna dl the real player codec for it.
(also, really don't like Zoom or Media Player Classic for reasons i can't really explain, its not that they're bad. i just like vlc more. lol dokno why)
Can't read >_<
