At first sight, you only see what they look like, so I would think it'd be lust, rather than love.

I believe in the old fashioned feeling that when you see the right girl, you would give anything to bone her.

To answer the question - I believe there is only lust at forst sight, and th love comes later.....or it doesn't and the lust just fades away.

I believe in lust/infatuation/attraction at first sight, which may (in rare cases) become real love later on. It's impossible to truly love someone until you take the time to get to know them.

Personally, i don't think love at first sight exists. How can someone fall in love with another person on the first meeting? You guys are right that's merely called lust or maybe a slight attraction. The word love is just too much to use for a first meeting.

I've wondered before whether that "love-at-first-sight" feeling has some biological basis.

Or more specifically, some evolutionary mechanism. A mechanism that helps with natural selection.

I've wondered if that "love-at-first-sight" feeling is actually your body's primative way of telling you that the person you're looking at is a prime candidate for a mate. A potential mate with a set of genetic info that complements your own very well. In other words, mating with that person would produce superior offspring.

Just like how other living creatures have pheromones, perhaps we also have a way of unconsciously evaluating the genes people carry. And when we unconsciously identify someone with a set of genes that compliments our own (making for ideal offspring), we get that "love-at-first-sight" feeling.

That's my hypothesis anyway. I can't really think of a reliable way to scientifically test it.

Well, you're mostly right with that. Animals tend to try to attract healthy looking partners so they can create strong off-springs. This was traditionally true as well for human beings. By instinct, we are supposed to find someone with an ideal form to be attractive.

There are features like symmetry, such as the ears (to make the ears appear more identical, people started wearing earrings), a male's muscles, female's breasts(?), etc. To some extent, we still feel these attraction, although a lot of people try to rely more on rationality rather than instincts nowadays.

But, love is (usually) defined as a deep caring for the well-being of someone, while lust is sexual desire, which is mostly driven by our instinct to keep the human race alive by reproduction. Of course, different people use different definitions of love, so meh.

Anyway, your hypothesis is pretty much correct, with a lot of scientific proof to support it.

you know what they say.....those who don't believe in ghosts are the ones who've never seen them.....love at first sight might be possible, but it has never happened to me.....i kinda work on a mutual interest, which happens 'cause of my mutual interest in white guys.......i'd rather get to know the person, then develop a deeper relationship than fall in love "at first sight" and spend the rest of my life gawking and gazing at that person from afar....

Interesting question.. I'm not saying it's not possible because I think anything is.. but I will say, I think "love at first sight" and "soul mates" go hand in hand. I don't exactly believe in soul mates, but I do believe in soul lovers.. though I think that's something that occurs over time.. so yea, I guess you could say I believe in it.. or at least think it's a possibility.

first sight is just infatuation or lust...true love comes from knowing the person better

Hmm, I would say it isn't lust, in my belief lust virtually never results in love. However the entire phenomena of love at first sight I would say is very related to hindsight bias. In that couples when asked how they met may remember feeling attracted at their first meeting. They then later relate this initial attraction to the love they felt later, and hense call it 'love' at first sight.

Sorry if that bursts any romantic bubbles 😁

No, I don't believe in first sight love. The person I once fell in love with, I thought was trying to kill me when we first met.

I will never be foolish enough to say it, and to believe in it.
It makes me feel like slapping myself for the things I said back then >_>

It's lust at first sight, not love...never. 😔
