This week's poll was suggested by Afiaki. How do you normally find or discover a new series to read? You probably have a combination of factors but pick the option that corresponds most with your primary factor.

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: How often do you reread a series and realize it isn't as good as you remember?
Choices:
Never - votes: 517 (15.2%)
Seldom - votes: 1293 (37.9%)
Sometimes - votes: 1326 (38.9%)
Usually - votes: 212 (6.2%)
Always - votes: 60 (1.8%)
There were 3408 total votes.
The poll ended: May 30th 2020

I really should rewatch Cardcaptor Sakura. I bought the Blu-ray set and still haven't cracked it open...

I'm surprised there's no option for series done by one's favorite scanlation groups. Generally I've combined that with following authors—good group introduces me to good author, whose series get picked up by other good groups introducing me to new good authors, and the cycle goes on.

There are many aspects that make me read a manga, then again I read so many manga so I guess I'll say I just read everything I can find my hands on and if it turns out to be a boring I'll just leave it mmm...

I read the synopsis or summary and choose what looks interesting fits the most. Kind of. Looking at chapter or issue one of a comic is the easiest thing ever. You can even have a quick flip though if you are less sure about what you have in front of you. That´s the nice thing about this visual medium where you the reader controls the reading speed. The time investment is low and we are drowning in content due to all sorts of reasons. Other options as trusted authors are also valid.

I basically click on any new series title I haven't seen before and then I look at the art and read the summary. Back in the day, I used to read practically everything as long as the art was relatively good, but now I have a lot of genres/tags that make me dismiss a series automatically.

I haven't been doing much of this recently because of time, though. I already read [looks] 1276 series concurrently, though not all of them update regularly, but even with just a fraction of them, I'm reading something like a hundred or so new chapters a day, so I don't have time for new series. Though I do make exceptions for authors I really like, so...

Hm, which option to choose...

It's a gamble between I read the synopsis or summary and choose what looks interesting and I ask for personal recommendations. Although, now that I think about it, the former fits better. But if a series ends up being too long, I abandon it. cough, One Piece, cough

When searching for a new series, I use every method listed in the poll here & there but my main method is filtering by genres/categories. I guess that means I don't just read anything I get my hands on but I feel otherwise.

I definitely use more than one, but main is search by category+genre so chose that.

my vote was "other methods" because there are several selections:
i pre-select by categories, in this selection i sometimes read the summary, look at the score or just try one or more chapters.
Other time i just click titles and let myself surprised.
And finally i try some recommendation. But in most cases the "surprise attempts" lead to a dropped series 🙂

I'm likely to take recommendations. If something is popular I might also give it a try.
Lately I've been snooping through people's reading lists on MD and picking from them, lol. I only do that if their tastes are somewhat similar to mine, though.

The biggest issue for me is actually getting around to reading a manga, so my backlog is pretty big. When I actually start, I usually read the whole thing, even if it's not great.

I read the synopsis or summary and choose what looks interesting. I don't care at all about ratings or recommendations, because my tastes are way too niche for most things I end up liking to have any kind of widespread appeal. (Not to say there aren't some very popular and/or famous titles on my favourites list, but those make up a very small percentage of what I enjoy.)

I could also have gone with "I look for series that fulfil specific categories or genres" or "I look for stuff similar to what I already like," but that isn't necessarily always the case, so.

Check new releases > look if there's a cover or title that catches my interest > read synopsis.

That's how I find new series most often. Other times I might check what's currently popular or look for specific genres/tags.

First I look for series that fulfill specific categories or genres, and then I read the synopsis or summary and choose what looks interesting based on the results that come up.

"I look at those clickbait thumbnails or titles" This and its rating.

I read the synopsis or summary and choose what looks interesting +
I read the new series for authors that I already like +
I look for series that fulfill specific categories or genres

I voted for the first one, though.
I think that most part of the time I read summaries. If I end liking that author, I'll look after his/her stories. And if I enjoy the genre, I'll end looking for similar series. 😉

As another 'method': I also pay attention to the art, but this factor is not important at all if the plot is great.
