Mechhhaaaa!

Alright, two things. One, is I'm looking for the name of a mecha manga (or was it an anime?), and the other one is I'm looking for recommendations for some.
So, the one I'm looking for is where the pilots have special abilities, and thats how their chosen. This normally appears by making the characters hair glow. The main characters were like... 12, and male. The main female girl who was the robot repairer for the main dude had dog ears and pink hair. The robots work by emerging the pilots into this weird liquid that they can breath in, and then linking their conciousness to the robot, so that the robot acts as their body. If I remember right, the robot also has its own "spirit", that is coherent and chooses who its pilot is. That is all I remember.
Now, I'm looking for mecha mangas/animes where the main characters are special in some way, probably involving them being talented at piloting the robots. As far as the robots are concerned, I want something similar to Sousei No Aquarion or the manga mentioned above.

For your second request:
Animes:
Parallel Dual
The Big O (maybe)
If you've ever thought or said "Nice Guys finish last" and really meant it, then you should probably read this LJ post by DivaLion. It's incredibly insightful whether you're male or female.

oh god I remember that anime
The candidate for goddess.
It was horrible, just horrible.
I thought the manga could be better, but it was just as bad. How the hell it got adapted into an anime, I cannot fathom.
sadly, I can't help you with the other request.

I thought all mecha pilots were 'special...' 😀 talented, or grown in a lab, or mentally ill, or with 'spiral power' or all of the above. It makes for good stories, but it's harder to find series where they are normal.
I tried watching the Big O but kept losing interest, not sure why because I love the whole noir thing. You should watch some original Gundam or Zeta Gundam if you haven't already. Old but good.
Or Evangelion. Incomprehensible but good.
But you probably watched them already if you're into mecha 🙂

I don't remember there being anything particularly 'special' about the guys in Gundam Wing, but I remember loving the series.

That was it! I watched it when I first got into anime/manga... I think I was 8 or 9. XDD Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. 😀 I haven't watched/read any of those at all.

SAME. apparently heero is special since he's superhuman or something. whatever.
yeah usually in mecha series the main character is always "special" in some way or has some ability that makes him better than the others. i agree that it's harder to find more "normal" characters in these series.
i enjoyed big o, but to each their own 😀
;D
