This week's poll was suggested by VawX. Is there a light on when you normally sleep? To be honest, I can't imagine trying to sleep with a light on anymore. It's hard for me to sleep without complete darkness now.

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: How much do you care about romantic plotlines in series that aren't focused around romance?
Choices:
A lot - votes: 544 (22.5%)
As long as MC ships with who I want - votes: 640 (26.5%)
A little - votes: 841 (34.8%)
Not at all - votes: 389 (16.1%)
There were 2414 total votes.
The poll ended: July 6th, 2024 4:26pm PDT

More romance than not

Light is very distracting for me... So no light source is preferred for me...

Glad to see my suggestion used, I personally prefer to sleep in complete darkness mmm...
And based on early result, it is more or less as I expected mmm...

Though, it's still hard for me to see someone to prefer sleeping with a big monitor like TV turned on mmm...

I work graveyard shifts
and tend to have more daylight than I would prefer as the day progresses
I have one of my blankets draped over my eyes; it's a dark pattern so it is pretty close to 'complete darkness'

The less light there is the better. I f it's afternoon nap I don't mind the light.

I can understand little children wanting some light, due to being scared of the dark, but aside from that, I cannot fathom why anyone would want any kind of light, whatsoever, when they sleep. (setting aside, how it's bad for your sleep, and unhealthy)
The mere notion is bizarre to me, and whilst I know a lot of people don't bother to enure total darkness, I've never heard of anyone (aside from darkness fearing little kids children), intentionally making things bright. Even if just faintly.

You should have as complete a darkness, and as complete a silence as possible (though certain natural noises, like rain, are fine. Maybe preferable?), and a nicely cool temperature (below regular room temperature)
...and do nothing in the bed, or bedroom, other than sleeping or going to sleep, so it is purely associated, in your mind, with sleep and only sleep.
(these are objective, scientifically demonstrated, facts)

Rofl, is this a question for kids? What kind of adult needs light to fall asleep?🤣 I can understand that complete darkness can be a bit unsettling, like giving you the impression that you're blind or sth, but still.🤣 I need darkness to sleep. A little light from outside the window is fine, but no more please.

I sleep in complete darkness as I make sure to close the gaps in the blinds. The whole room is a black box that way.

I sleep with a blue glow in my room coming from my PC. Not out of necessity, I'm just not in the habit of turning my PC off lol.

I have a night light. But it's dim and it only turns on when it detects motion.

Also to some of y'all asking why people have light... don't you wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom? Do you not trip over things? Lol or is that just me and my messy room? XD

Quote from F_J

Sure I do.

Do you not trip over things?

No. Also, even if I needed a light, to guide me, I have a couple of light sources on the nightstand, I can turn on, so...

I'd say it could also somewhat dependant on where you live. As someone that has lived his entire life in a location that has constant sunlight(midnight sun) for a month or so every summer, and total darkness in mid-winter, I don't really care much about the level of light when going to sleep. I have gone to bed in both complete darkness and with full lighting (ceiling light, sunlight through window, tv, and bedside lamp) without any problems.

Having the lights on always makes me awake, even when it's already 4am. But usually, 5 minutes after I turned off the lamp, I can't hold my sleepiness. (I'm writing this with my lights on, and it's almost 1am 😂)

That's why, I usually sleep in complete darkness, even when it's naptime. But if I have to sleep with someone else during a trip, and that person prefers to have lights on, at least I can compromise by having dim lights (sleeping lamp or similar things).

In my case, my eyes usually will get used to the darkness eventually, so I can see the walls and furnitures. Besides, I've memorized where is the door knob, the walls, and the position of other furnitures at my house, so I wouldn't be afraid to stumble or trip over things.

A lot of my friends do. 😂
A few weeks ago I went on a trip with my colleague, and she asked me to keep the hallway lights on.
