Ta-da! D:

The first option is mainly used in the US and the second one in the rest of the world. Although there are others than those, these are the most common. o.o

And which one in your eyes is more practical? o.o

I use the second option. I always dislike it when something is listed in inches or pounds. T.T I always have to convert it. Dx<<

Certainly meters, or in my case metric rulers. This is what I use during technical drawing classes. Or I estimate in centimeters random things when I don't have a ruler nearby.

The second one.
I only have an approximate idea when it comes to the first.
American's are strange...

Wasn't there already a thread like this though?

Mixture, although I can see that I steer more to the second option, so if you made me choose between them, I would have gone for that one.

I don't like it when the weatherman gives out temperatures in Fahrenheit. It means nothing to me 🤣

I however, prefer miles. I understand miles much better. shrugs

I was born in the U.S. so I'm used to the first option, however now that I'm in 8th grade, our science teacher is having us learn the metric system.

Also are penguins from Antarctic. 😀

Metric system rules! Jokes aside, I really don't care for whatever others want to use, the only complain I have is when in games/manga/other stuff you find an height/weight listed in inches/pounds...

I use the US system. I mean, it was what I was taught in school. It is what is used around here every single day. I'd be an idiot not to. I mean, I wish the US had converted the metric system before, but if they did it now, that would mean I'd have to go back and undo pretty much everything I learned about it.

and sorry, that ain't happenin'.

So I can understand why the US hasn't joined the rest of the world. Imagine the funding that would have to go into changing all the road signs alone.

Although we use the Second option the most, in general we use a combination of both.

Length and liquid measurements tend to be in Litres and meters/centimeters.
When giving a rough measure it's sometimes inches.
Kilograms for maths and Stone/pounds for weight..Height in both imperial and metric.
Giant mixture of the both.
..I think I actually confused myself.

I'm an American who's not a science major. Therefore, I use option 1 pretty much all the time. When I see measurments in metric (in books and manga), I usually blow it off; very rarely do I bother to figure out what it is in the system I use...

Metric is far, far superior. In fact, there's no rational reason to use anything else other than pure stubbornness. It's really quite infuriating, but what else would you expect from a country that makes a point of only speaking one language?

And as to the whole funding thing, come on. Canada managed the conversion with next to no problems when we failed to. The real issue is either stubbornness or the fact that, on average, people haven't been educated to the extent that is necessary in order to fully comprehend the fact that it is an inferior system (which is an empirical fact, not an opinion, as metric actually has a rational basis while the central purpose of imperial measurements is either entirely arbitrary or measured incorrectly.)

Burma/Myanmar and Liberia aside, anyway (though I think the state of those two countries also should reveal the inadequacies of such a system.)

Last I looked, the USA still doesn't have an official language, and Spanish (or Spanglish, or Mexican/Cuban/etc.) is nearly as prevalent if not a majority over English in some places.

I agree with the stubbornness though. The USA has low enough math scores and understanding without "making it worse" by changing systems. Some people would be OK with it, but I fear that more (lower class) wouldn't be than would.

Edit: Not to mention the panic it would cause with gas prices. Paying per litre would really throw off a lot of people. 😉 🤣

haha this thread is funny! I'm a hispanic American. lol Yes we dont use the metric system much at all. The reason well because we dont like change i guess. I think just about everyone here agrees that metric is better but well you grow up using one system that has always worked for you so why change it... or i think the feeling is something like this 😃 As for not learning other languages... well spanish is being taught to some degree to younger kids but it isnt until about 6 grade here that they require a foreign language to be taken. That said most people i know like the idea of learning a second language or have learned. As for me i know spanish/english/ very little german from high school and im taking japanese now 🙂
