It is a good game. But no Rpg in the world can beat Baldur´s gate 2. =D I would argue, but its hard to compare a Japanese RPG to a Western one and not look like a tool.
Did anybody else watch the trailer(s) and have their heart sink, knowing that the real game will never ever be that awesome?

yes 🙁 . Cinematics are always so awesome. Too bad games can't be like that.

My friend keeps comparing Dragons Age to WoW, and its starting to irk me. He says it like WoW was the first game to ever implement third-person, one-click combat and have a UI that consists of character icons with health/stamina indicators and a quickbar for skills and items.

When it comes down to it, this is easily the greatest fantasy themed RPG ever. Any RPG set in a classic fantasy world with dwarves and elves no matter how good just seems weak in comparison. The voice acting, the cinematics, the characters, and the story are all just epic. In some ways this game has ruined RPGs for me because I know its going to be a long time till something this amazing comes out again, or at least until Mass Effect 2 comes out.

Isn't saying this a little preemptive? Give it some time to sink in first.

Nice game, but the only reason it's so widely acclaimed is because of a bad case of rose-tinted spectacles compounded by it being about as mainstream as a western RPG can get.
Maybe I'm not giving it enough time to draw me in or reveal all of the mind-blowing innovations or whatever, but I shouldn't need to play a game for this long before the gameplay gets fun.
The origin stories are definitely the most interesting aspect, and the best part of the early game, at least. I've played 3 of the origin stories, and each time, when it ended and I got to the main plot, I lost interest within a few hours and started over with a different character and origin.
What system are you playing on?

stuff
I'd qualify that statement as overzealous. I still don't understand why this game is stealing the hearts and souls of everybody that plays it. Is Bioware really being given such a free ride?
As much as I don't enjoy the fact that my friend compared it to WoW or MMOs in general, it's a valid point. the gameplay is essentially point and click, with a mix of Final Fantasy XII thrown in for good measure.
Also, just like Final Fantasy XII, you can still see that the game is essentially turn-based, only smoothed over a bit more and played in real time. Think ATB but everybody auto-attacks.
The dialogue is good, if way too verbose, and the speech delivery is spotty. Don't believe me? read ahead of the voices and pay attention to how your mind inflects it compared to the VA.
The dialogue choices can almost always be easily labelled under their generic response types of "nice/honorable", "angsty/eager", "concerned/worried", or "asshole".

Personally, I'm really enjoying this game. I, unfortunately, can only play it when I steal the computer from my brother, but I think it's one of the few RPGs I've found fulfilling. I'm typically too impatient for turnbase RPGs, but I think this one combines turnbase and realtime play successfully. I haven't played Baulder's Gate 2, but I'm thinking I might have to give it a shot now.
I enjoy messing with the tactical options, but sometimes it's just easier if I tell everyone what to do when I want them to do it.

I hope this doesn't sound the wrong way, but what more do you want? I think the level of interaction with the AI is pretty impressive. Until they make a video game where you can create your own responses, generic answers are they only way to go.
It's a little wordy, true, but at least there's a good plot to go along with it. And there is usually a huge battle after a dramatic cut scene. 😀

Finished it for the second time on a harder mode, I got Morrigan to go into creation and spirit healer (since you only get Wayne later on in the game). I played Rogue Duelist/Assassin, with momentum and Morrigan's haste I was attacking like a madman lol. (pinpoint strike is kickass)
The game is overly fun and on the second time I decided to play properly and collect a few armor sets to give to my party members, some armors look awesome, especially the Juggernaut set. I was torn by the whole 'random event' thing though, even when I had Leliana on 80+ approval I couldn't trigger her event to start the quest to befriend her, so I had to settle with killing Femeth who I thought was harder than the Archdemon.
P.S I had it on the PC so it was alot easier than the console counterparts its you can control things alot better.

Then you should really give Final Fantasy XII a shot. The combat is lifted from that almost verbatim. The only thing they forgot was the good AI.

I agree with you that the interaction is pretty impressive. There are a ton of options and all of that, but I only wish that they weren't so identifiable. I almost never ran into a decision I couldn't categorize, and that made the whole process stale.
I know there are writers that can make it happen if I see it in games that have jumped the language barrier, so why can't Bioware do it?
Not to mention with the relationship decisions, the game flat-out tells me how many points I scored or lost with a character after I'm done. Quicksave/Quickload etc.

I can't get too far in this games, or others like it. I always forget to save and then I end up dying. I get pissed off my hard work was for nothing and go do something else for a while

From what I've seen the quicksave in this game is quite nice.
