Complete Manga with Uncertain Ending

I'm not the type to be satisfied with an ending that ends with "and they all live happily ever after", there is always uncertainties in the world, and stories are no exception. Even if most people are satisfied with stories with a good ending, some people wish to see the story delved deeper into it.
Even if that story ended, what happens afterward? The writer is tempted to explore deeper into the story's roots and origins, hoping to show what has happened beforehand. If a series shows simply just one event in the story, then will happen then? That is what gives us prequels and sequels in the story.
So what I'm looking for basically, is a manga that is complete, but is continuing through with a different main character in the sequel. Prequels are fine as well, but it has to relate to the original story. A name of the series, and the characters are all I need.

Umm... Gunnm ended with a certain and very lame ending. Then its sequel continued on with the same main character and pretended like that ending never happened. I was glad.
That aside, I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for.. a manga with an open ending? Or a manga with a sequel? Both it seems, which is rather limiting.
I'm not sure why you are looking for this... what is wrong with a contained story? There's no reason to not just start a different story once you have completed the one... I can understand you wanting to read a story more open to interpretation, but requiring a sequel/prequel doesn't make much sense to me, when you haven't even read the manga yet...

An open ending I suppose. I couldn't find a good word for what I was looking for, but you helped.

Like I said, I'm not always satisfied with a contained story. If there is a series that no longer requires to delve any deeper than it should, then I guess it'd be okay to end it there. But basically If there is a series that has a sequel or prequel, please point out the main series.
