Actually, it's funny seeing this topic as I'm getting mine removed in three days.
I've already had four of my pre-molars pulled before due to lack of space. I'm not worrying too much. I enjoy visiting the dentist, really.

I had my wisdoms cut out (they hadn't really grown in) over ten years ago, as well. I was in 9th grade. I don't really remember it being painful, and I didn't take any pain killers, and I didn't miss a day of school. I did puff up like a chipmunk for a few days, and I remember waking up to be very very ornry after the anesthesia. And how wierdly neat it was rinsing out food bits from the pockets in my mouth ... if they didn't come out it would have messed up all the work of the braces and retainers and headgear I had just finished with.

no way. absolutely no way. im afraid of needles, not to talk about knives, and it usually takes two nurses holding me down, my gramma standing by my side, and hard rock music in full volume through headphones in my ears, only to have the doctor cleaning my teeth. and all those ppl usually tell me lies like "nooooo!! a needle? no way!! no WAY! its just a little.. uh... TOOTHBRUSH. it wont hurt a bit, now stop kicking..." the doctor used to put some medicine on my teeth instead of piercing me when i was little, but then i swallowed it and fainted so he stopped...

Right now.....my left face is swollen like a balloon and the stitches are coming off..........I asked the doctor and he said it's normal........And I almost killed myself in the shower. I fainted and hit my head on the tub.....

Note to everyone, when you just had a surgery and bleed a lot, don't take a shower. You'll most probably have an accident......Now I KNOW I hate the surgeons.....

whoa...I'm feeling a bit light headed.......

How do you handle getting vaccines? Won't you have to get them in miltary service?? For wisdom teeth removal, as far as I can remember, they gassed me to sleep before I got any needles, and absolutely no recollection of the procedure ... I think ...

I still have 3 of mine. And 2 of them are pretty much falling apart. Basically the main problem is that they are so far back in the jaw that it's almost impossible to properly clean them when brushing your teeth. Even if they're perfectly straight, they can and generally WILL end up getting cavities, infected, whatever. So it's probably better to just have em out.

When I had the 1 removed all it took was a novacaine shot, a couple mins with some pliers, and a bit of drilling to get some stubborn root tips. Spent a few days with cotton wads in the socket and no painkillers, wasn't that bad.

Now to just save enough money to get the other 3 removed. /sigh

I had one of mine taken out last year. It was a pain. Apparently I don't get numb all the way even after 3 shots. So I just hunkered down and took it. Unfortunately, my root was curved like a corkscrew, so he broke it pulling out, and had to drill for the rest of the root. Really made me wish painkillers worked on me.

Good news though, I asked him if I could keep it and he let me! 😀 My mom has it now.

I think they have to give it to you if you ask because some religions will not let you go to heaven when you die if you are missing parts. Like certain Buddhists and Taoist and stuff. Pretty cool if you lost an arm or something and kept it in a jar on the dresser. I would do that if I were in an accident.

When I had mine taken out, it was done by an oral surgeon rather than a regular dentist. They gave me a pill to take 30 minutes before the appointment, then at the appointment put an IV in my hand (or arm...can't remember which). One minute I was sitting there thinking, "I wonder how long it'll be before this stuff takes effect" and the next minute I was waking up in the recovery room, giggling (no clue why). I still have 3 of my wisdom teeth, in a little box with most of my baby teeth (the 4th one they had to break up to get out, so I didn't get to take it home).

Recovery wasn't bad. I think I pretty much crashed for a couple days, hard to remember since it's been so long. I had the surgery on a Friday morning & was back to work on Monday, but it was several weeks before I could eat normally & not worry about something poking me back where the teeth came out.

Did the surgeon advise of any impaction, bruising, complication?
I can be about a week, but the above things can make it take longer. Whatever you do, be very careful of the dry socket! Do whatever you can to avoid this! You will suffer greatly if you knock the clot out. take my word

i've had 6 teeth removed including 2 wisdom teeth and 4 premolars. the premolars were taken out so my teeth had room to be straitened by braces and the wisdom teeth because they were coming in crooked.

i had to have three novacaine shots pertooth and it wore off midway through the surgery so i needed two more.

i didn't have any swelling, but i can say the pain lasts 1-2 weeks and tenderness up to 4. have fun chewing, you may end up eating like a pellican.

my dentist gave me a ton of painkilers, but i didn't end up taking any.

and i dunno abouthe the stiches, i just had holes in my gum that i had to rinse out after every meal. eventually the close up themselves, but it sounds to me like the stiches are worse than just leaving it.
