i've had 6 teeth removed including 2 wisdom teeth and 4 premolars. the premolars were taken out so my teeth had room to be straitened by braces and the wisdom teeth because they were coming in crooked.
i had to have three novacaine shots pertooth and it wore off midway through the surgery so i needed two more.
i didn't have any swelling, but i can say the pain lasts 1-2 weeks and tenderness up to 4. have fun chewing, you may end up eating like a pellican.
my dentist gave me a ton of painkilers, but i didn't end up taking any.
You don't have any swelling on your facial tissue?

I didn't have any visible swelling - looked totally normal to everyone else. I'm sure there was some swelling in my gums, but it didn't affect my face & I never used ice packs. I also had stitches, so no "gaping holes" to keep clean, just had to be careful when I was eating.

Everybody gets stitches. The "dry socket" comes from dislodging the blood clot under the stitch. Because it is a gouge wound they can't just sew the whole thing up or it would get infected. If you wanna test it, I suggest drink a hot liquid through a straw. If you feel something dislodge and you get a searing (probably one of the most painful things in life) pain in your little tooth hole, you will know what I mean.
Other painful things that I think would feel equally painful-
Smash a glass rod in you urinary tract-hole.
Break your own kneecaps
Give birth to twins in the woods
stab your eye with a lead pencil and rub salt and lemon in it.
Life is tough......but it's tougher if you're stupid.

I'm going to the dentist tomorrow to check it out.

I was told to use ice-packs but didn't. I swelled up like a chipmunk - I thought it was because I didn't use the ice packs? I was also not supposed to use my mouth too much, ie limited talking. As far a stitches, I may have had one or something, but I had open holes. I had to gently squirt water into them to dislodge food particles. I don't think I was swollen for a week, though. But, mine were cut out - they had not even erupted on the surface of the gums, so this may be why some things are different. Feeling at the back of my teeth now, I totally don't know where they would've gone if left alone, there really is no room in there!

Note to everyone, when you just had a surgery and bleed a lot, don't take a shower. You'll most probably have an accident......Now I KNOW I hate the surgeons.....
I suppose usually a person has to see the surgeon when he or she has to be opened up to do or fix something, and if it's not something as minor as wisdom teeth removal, it's something more dire... 😲

I still have 3 of mine. And 2 of them are pretty much falling apart. Basically the main problem is that they are so far back in the jaw that it's almost impossible to properly clean them when brushing your teeth. Even if they're perfectly straight, they can and generally WILL end up getting cavities, infected, whatever. So it's probably better to just have em out.
When I had the 1 removed all it took was a novacaine shot, a couple mins with some pliers, and a bit of drilling to get some stubborn root tips. Spent a few days with cotton wads in the socket and no painkillers, wasn't that bad.
Now to just save enough money to get the other 3 removed. /sigh
Hmm, so since cavities happen in the wisdom teeth, it might cost more to pay to deal with the cavities than remove the useless teeth. Since you can't really clean them as you said, so maybe you also can't chew much with them?

Good news though, I asked him if I could keep it and he let me! 😀 My mom has it now.
I think they have to give it to you if you ask because some religions will not let you go to heaven when you die if you are missing parts. Like certain Buddhists and Taoist and stuff. Pretty cool if you lost an arm or something and kept it in a jar on the dresser. I would do that if I were in an accident.
But one broke and so that tooth couldn't be given to the patient. I didn't ask for my teeth and it didn't cross my mind to ask. I ended up losing all my braces because they got thrown out. 😢 Since I paid $x000 for my dental work and $25 for each brace, I was entitled to them. And it was reckless for them to throw it out. And it was probably the assistant that I had a bad feeling about that threw them out too, on the only day she returned. 🙄 (God, you didn't like me that day or the original date of that appointment, did you? 😔 )
So yeah, if you're a dental assistant, reassured there are people like me that are cursing you into your grave for when you screwed up in the office! Mwahahahaha! 🤣 😀 Seriously. 😉
And here's some dark and gloomy talk about the "end of the line"...(nothing about the dental office).
The funny or actually very sad part of it, vinceasuma, I was hearing in the early 1990s that Chinese prisoners that got sentenced to a death (by like shooting), they would purposely shoot them so that they weren't quite dead or avoid the organs that they wanted to keep. When a prisoner dies, the family is suppose to get the person's remains (although usually the prisoners don't have family and so the dirty business can be hidden easily) but they even robbed this guy's remains and although the family was mad, they got shut up quickly (probably threatened and such by the government). This is why organ donation in exchange for money is frown upon, I think by the United Nations. I think that's the pdf document that I found online a while ago because of a trivia question. It was about this guy that suggested inmates that could have a few months taken off their sentence if they donated a kidney. ... blank stare Well the part I mentioned earlier was more shocking though, but it sounds like one of those ideas that sounded good in the person's head but then the person had to give them a voice. 😔
But on a lighter note, a person has to be buried within a week after they die, right? So what does the family do if not all the pieces can be found? (That's overlooking any "splatter" sort of deaths...) Like if the person lives to 100 years old and the person has loads of stuff, and there's the baby teeth that the person had when the person was younger, how does one find that? 🤣 But I think Chinese are more worried about cremation versus burial as if one gets the former and has his or her ashes scattered, that person's soul is scattered. It seems recent Earth Day news says that being buried over being cremated is more environmentally friendly (although the casket and the plot are probably going to cost more). I guess that lesses the romance aspect of it for Bridges of Madison County. 🤣 😳 But vinceasuma, I think you'd prefer to put the arm back on if you could over just having it in a jar. 🤣

My wisdom tooth is not out yet. You can only see it on X-Ray. It's lying on its side. A normal dentist can't do a wisdom tooth extraction. You need a referral from a normal dentist to go to a tooth surgeon to remove the wisdom tooth. Cut open the gum, break the teeth in half, take them out. Clean the wound, seal it with stitches.

I thought that bodies were drained of blood and went through an elaborate embalming process and then placed in a pretty decay-retardant casket ... not very decomposable anyway. I guess you would have to for-go all of that to be considered environmentally friendly, just rot (and stink) like normal, and hope nothing digs you up or a flood washes you out, eww...maybe the vultures could just have you
...
but they couldn't take you're wisdom teeth, because they should already be extracted! There, a topic tie-in!

Well, I'm doing okay so far since I got mine out yesterday. The left side of my face is swollen, but atleast my tongue and lips aren't numb anymore. Pain isn't so bad that it isn't bearable. My wisdom teeth were pretty developed too. I waited quite awhlie to get them removed as I was told last year that I would need them taken out soon.
I'm more afraid I told my mom things I didn't want her to know as I was waking up. Apparently I told her three times that I got some laughing gas, but I only remember telling her once...
The worst part was the oral surgeon's office was littered with Gourmet magazine. Thanks a lot. I hadn't eaten in 15 hours and all I had to look at while I was waiting was food. 🙄

I'll be getting all 4 of mine removed in a little more than a week.
I'm scared of the things I might say/reveal after they dope me up. 😐 I was with my friend when he got his removed, and when we were in the car, he said to me "I want to swim in purple jello......." and he doesn't even remember. 😲
I want to keep mine though.

IDK!~~~~
If it ruins my teeth structure, then take it out! I might be able to endure the pain...
If it does nothing, leave it...?
I don't even know if all my teeth are fully grown, but it's pretty straight right now.
