What is your opinion? Do you choose which group does the best job of it or the one that is the earliest? Personally, I feel a bit annoyed by it, because there's so many manga that need scanlating or some that get scanlated really slowly or just, somehow, get forgotten... 😔

I totally agree. There have been many groups racing for new releases of the same series recently. While they are the series I like, I still feel like it's such a waste >"< many of my favorites have been abandoned by the same groups @.@ and lots of others that are so good but no group cares to pick up

99% of leechers will read the one that's out first unless it's completely unreadable (even then, they'll try to read it at least). Whenever there's a release war, most leechers actively encourage it. For some stupid reason they imagine that more competition leads to better quality, when actually the opposite is true. Add a few scanlators who happen to be assholes, and the environment is ripe for this kind of crap.

and/or one piece

why in gods name would/should i bother with translating something else/?

[not meant to be ironic...if someone takes it that way]

to awsner part OPs rant

I used to read the most easy to access and fastest release of my favorite mangas
now i read them as soon as some nice japanese/or otherwise scans them and put them online

That's the best explanation a group can give, in my opinion.

Even if each series was only done by one scanlation group, there would still be lots of series that never get done for the same reason they're not being done now - scanlators don't like them enough to do them. Yeah, it's a shame some series are neglected, but they're being neglected for a very simple reason - no one capable of scanlating them wants to do so. So they'll continue to be neglected until current scanlators start liking them (unlikely), or until new scanlators come along who like them (possible, but still unlikely), or until someone who likes them becomes a scanlator specifically to see them scanlated (counter-intuitive as it may be, this is the most likely).

Ending the duplicate releases and the speed races won't have any effect on the unpopular unscanlated series. Scanlators would just find other popular series to feed the masses, while the unpopular series continue to collect dust. You might think they're wasting their time now by doing duplicate releases, but they would probably consider it a waste of time to even bother with the unpopular project you wish they were working on. Remember, the only reward is praise from fans and the personal enjoyment you get out of scanlating that project. With an unpopular project you don't personally like, you're getting nothing. Not only do you get no reward, you're suffering through hours and days on a project you personally dislike and you're doing it for nothing. Why would anyone aside from a few do-gooders and masochists suffer for nothing when instead they could be working on something they enjoy and receiving the gratitude of the masses? It's just not reasonable to expect that.

We've had such discussions before on this site, so let's not pursue it any long.
I believe everybody thinks it's a pointless situation, but that's just how things are.
Popular stuff gets many speedy releases. Doesn't mean they're good and it doesn't mean these same groups would have worked on other things instead.
In fact, the soul purpose of many such speed groups is to release said popular titles as fast as possible and nothing else. No new projects, no side-tracks.
