Having actually been to a similar events when I was in my 20s (for games I played online then) that hosted around 20-60 people each, I really don't have a problem with getting together to hang out with people I know from online. As long as it's a large enough group of people in a public area, and you don't start wandering off together as couples, it's generally a safe way to meet others. You just have to use some common sense about wandering off alone with someone else.

(I've also driven to meet specific individuals I've met online. After all, that IS how I met my husband. I didn't practice my own 'common sense' rules in many of those cases because I'd done it so much at that point that I believed there was nothing to worry about because I trusted my sense of judgment. I should've known better and practiced common sense in those cases also. Fortunately it worked out for me.)

I'm usually always up for gatherings, but whether or not I can attend will depends more upon when and where for me once the baby is born. It would have to be regional within the US for me, since I won't have the money to travel for a long time. =)
