Oddly enough, most of the people commenting felt it was a curse, but the poll results have it much more even

No, none of my schools have an anime/manga club. Neither my gymnasium not my current college (my department even teaches videogame development) even had something remotely similar. My interest in comics and stuff was a leading reason for my low "social standing" during my teen years.
I will get to choose classes between the 4th to 6th semester and one of my current lecturers did comic classes in the past, so i will sign up to one if the opportunity arises.
The only problem is that i am more knowledgeable on the topic than her... but who doesn´t love an easy A?

I also read EU/US comics and am a librarian.

When I entered high school I was pretty excited to join my school's Anime/Manga club (the whole idea of being surround by people who like the same thing as you was appealing)....but after seeing the members all desire I had about joining left (the club was kinda infamous).

And to be honest I would never have wanted to be associated with the any of members. I just felt uncomfortable and at the end I realized prefer being alone when it came to my hobby. I'm okay discussing with close friends or over the net with others but in group settings....no thanks.

There were not even 'clubs', just some extracurricular activities. And there was not anything art related.

None of my schools had such a club, but i got interested in manga half a year before finishing my Master's degree, so not that I would really know... I am part of such club at my current job though (surprised that my job even has clubs, and I am part of roughly 3-4 of them depending on how you count)

Honestly, the situation was kind of the same for my school. There was a club, but I did not want to join. Most of the people there did not watch subs, and thats like all I watch, and I had read more manga than them. So it was like someone talking about something 5 years old like it was new. All the events that they hosted would be about something that came out like 5-10 years ago, and so I did not want to join. The people were nice though. I would discuss anime and manga with them; I just never wanted to join.

Nope, didn't have a club like that. Not that the idea of clubs is really big here anyway. I think it could have been nice, depending on the people.

Yes, when I was a freshmen in high school. The people were nice, but I couldn't stay. Too many things needed to be done at home.

Maybe I'm missing something. How is immortality "innately inhuman" and "socially unacceptable?" If you grew up in a society that strongly believed that there was NO LIFE after this life... a person might feel that way.

I grew up in a society that believes not only in Life after Death, but that individuals can Grow and become Immortals. So to me its not inhuman or socially unacceptable.

Now if your asking if I'd want it without my family, then NO. That would be a Curse... With my family it would indeed be "Heaven!"

The closest thing my high school had was a Literature Club. Only they were only interested in read one book a month. The school system here only expected students to read four books in three years... That gave be problems! 🙄 Because I was reading seven to ten books a week (I didn't read books so much as I read Libraries! 😲 🤣 ) So I joined the Chess club.

When I got to college, they only had a SciFi club. I thought that would be great to join. I believed they would cover books, manga, AND anime. After three meeting I found that 99% of the people were TREKKIEs! They didn't read, They did not watch ANYTHING that was not 100% TREKKIE, and at that time there were no animes dealing with Star Wars, especially not Official versions. Not one of them was interested in talking about any other media and what was being produced.

After many years the college has a SciFi club, an Anime club, and a Manga club. In fact they have clubs for Japanese, Korean, and Chinese versions as well. They've finally grown up, sniff, sniff, sniff. I'm so happy for them 😁

My high school didn't have one, but my college did. I didn't join it. Although I watched a few series growing up, I didn't really get into anime until my senior year of college. And by the time I was a senior, I was over joining clubs.
