I'll probably forget that I even made this post, but here goes nothing.
There are a LOT of Alice in Wonderland theme manga. Does the fact that Lewis Carroll (writer) was a pedophile contribute to it's popularity? I know that in manga, a lolicon isn't usually viewed as negative for whatever reason. It's like pedophilia is acceptable in Japan. Since I addmittedly don't know diddly squat about Japan and their customs (except for what little can be taken from manga) I wanted to ask. I always see those fucked up titles about someone screwing a little, prepubescent girl, especially incest. Even in shounen series, such as Cage of Eden, even have a lolicon/shotacon factor (Mina is really a boy, but they still cover up the nipples). That may be more along the lines of a trap, but you get the gist of it. I don't know any other country that allows "lolicon" crap, since it's just a nice way of saying pedophile. BTW, finding a little girl cute does not make you a lolicon, it's what you want to do to them that does.
I guess my main question, other than the one about Carroll, why is being a lolicon in Japan not as bad as being a pedophile in the U.S.? Or is it just a misconception made by mangakas? I know in America, people get their asses kicked or killed for stuff like that. Personally, I find it repulsive.

I swear, so many people on this site are so full of themselves. A lot seem to think they always have an "intelligent and/or logical" point or show signs of a superiority complex. They never admit they're wrong. Maybe partially, but excuses abound! :\

About Alice: I think it's simply an interesting theme, very well recognizable and rooted in culture, but at the same time having enough space to be explored in various ways. I don't think Carroll's sexuality has anything to do with this. Many people actually don't know about this controversial part of his life.

About lolicon: I don't think that we can sa that because lolicon exists, the Japanese accept pedophilia. I'm sure that if the found out that some child was really abused in a sexual way, they would be as shocked and angry as people from USA or Europe. They are probably just more tolerant when it comes to publishing manga like this (as deathbypenguin said, because of their different type of culture). I heard that in Japan there are much fewer cases of pedophiles abusing children than anywhere else. Perhaps it's because they can read about these things they can give vent to these unhealthy feelings and they don't have to abuse children?

Interesting. What is that about Lewis Carroll?
