abt the ending (spoiler warning)
Quote from db84x
the outhor already made right decision about the ending anyway, all of character lead into a satisfy way of life. I can't imagine what will happen to Nishino if Manaka choose other girl cause i think Nishino is the most fragile girl. But i believe Toujo and Satsuki is stong girl which will stand up and get happiness someday.
yep, tsukasa was the right choice for a guy like him.
but, i really want to know what would happen to aya and satsuki after the reunion.
hm~ if only the mangaka made more one or two additional chapters to finish aya and satsuki's story with a better conclusion.
tsukasa and misuzu really got a decent finish while the others only got a minor ending like that. oh my, the mangaka can do better than that.

Wow. Truly, this topic will not die. I made my first comment, what, like a year ago? I randomly decided to check this topic again, and lo and behold, it's still going strong. I would not expect every person who posted on the topic to have read all the posts on the topic prior to their own posting, since often times, comments are repeated. Having said that, I thought it would be entertaining to answer some of the recent conversation and be a welcome distraction from the rigors of school.
First of all, there were some uninformed statements made in evaluating the ending of the manga. It is true that in the literary form, the destiny of the characters are determined. This is the case for all fictional material, since the writer is also the author of the destiny of all of the characters involved in the story. However, to say that the author, who is himself or herself a person in reality, is now limited to a certain destiny (he or she must write according to set rules), is to contradict the statement that those in reality are not subject to a predetermined destiny. Does the mangaka have a right to write his or her story as he or she pleases? Or do they have to abide by some rules? On the other hand, do we, as the readers, have the right to make value judgments on the worth of his or her writing? Absolutely. So call it for what it is: opinion. It is not a literary fallacy to have the ending the way it is.
As for the comment on Toujo being the strawberry girl, the reason that Manaka asked Nishino out in v.1 is because she admitted to wearing strawberry panties as well. That is what started the confusion, and if anything, the title prepares the reader for the confusion to follow. Who is the true bearer of the strawberry panties. The main contenders throughout the manga are shown in various articles of strawberry clothing as a common theme. Therefore, having Nishino be the one Manaka eventually chooses does not negate the title or minimize it. On that note, Kozue was never a serious contender, since she wears "cherry" panties.
Also, as I mentioned in my previous post, the mangaka does not make Toujo the clear choice all the way through v.18. There are some obvious foreshadowing elements which point to Tsukasa, as well as keeping the potential of Satsuki. The biggest of these, I believe, came in v.16, when Nishino confessed to Manaka on the pull-up bars. This use of the literary device of parallelism is a strong indicator at that point, of the "destiny" which the mangaka had decided to go with, particularly when she fell and Manaka realized she was wearing "strawberry" panties; and I quote: "It's like a dream, being confessed to by Nishino ... also ... confessing while doing pull up like I did-...in middle school ... Toujou ran away before my eyes ...but this time, Toujou didn't show up ... instead, the one wearing the strawberry panties ... was Nishino ... the very first person I confessed to was Nishino and ... the very first person Nishino confessed to was me ... If this isn't destiny, then what is it?" (v.16c142p160-1). IMHO, by this time, the Mangaka starts shifting the attention towards Nishino.
Besides, if every Mangaka followed some preset formula, life and manga would be extremely boring. The element of surprise is what made movies like "Sixth Sense" interesting, as long as it's reasonable. And as I mentioned before, what makes literature literature is realistic, believable characters reacting in realistic ways in a believable world to improbable circumstances. We identify with the realism of the characters, not the situation. We read fiction to get away from our all-too-real life situation. A story about any one of us readers would be boring beyond belief. However, a story about one of the readers, say, who discovered he was the long-lost heir to an ancient kingdom in a parallel world... that makes (albeit a poor one) a story.
On the pacing of the ending, I agree with Dr. Love. The drawn-out length of the middle section is partly responsible for the apparent haste of the ending (although the very last few chapters, I felt, were indeed rushed). But that is also part of the appeal of a manga such as Ichigo. The reader becomes invested in it, both in time and in emotion. It becomes important to the reader what happens to the characters. I would argue, whether the mangaka intended it or not (such as being rushed by the publishers, as many good mangakas are forced to end their stories prematurely), that the feeling of being pushed too quickly at the end conveys the rush to a decision that the protagonist felt. I don't think he was any more prepared to make a choice in v.18 than he was in v.5. However, people in the Ichigo world as well as ours do not have a magic remote control, with which we could hit the pause button to think things out more thoroughly.
On a side note, I liked Satsuki second best. I actually thought she had a chance to steal Manaka in v.15. When she teased him and teased him with her ultra-sexiness to his breaking point, and he admits (and coming from the spineless wuss that he is, it's amazing) that he likes her, and he aggressively attempts to kiss her, she stops him (c129p87). She had him. Manaka was wrapped sooooo tightly around her little finger that the king of all indecisiveness would have done anything for her. But for whatever reason (I personally think her competitiveness: she didn't want to "win" in that manner) she stopped him and left him blue. That, I think, was her best chance at walking away with Manaka. BTW, she had me entranced as well. In Manaka's shoes, regardless of whether she stopped me or not, she would have been mine after that. :-)
Finally, I agree with all the other posters that the Mangaka could have and should have included a little more info about each of the other main characters. Although I do think that Toujou still had lingering feelings for Manaka (the way she looked at him, wide-eyed without speaking, can only be ascribed to amazement). It would have been nice to resolve Satsuki and Toujo, and show a little more about Nishino and Manaka's reunion than a 4 page layout. But again, I think the Mangaka may have been pressured by the publishers.
In any case, Ichigo 100% is one of the few mangas I keep on my computer for easy access at any time, and remains one of my favorites. Thanks for all the interesting (and some not-so-interesting) discussions. Back to study time for me.
Holy wall of text, Batman! 😲
Whatever people said about ending, ichigo 100% is one of legendary manga since it end in 2006 but still discussed until now 😃
i followed this manga since 2002 and i finished in 2006.
ah~ i spent more than 3 years following this manga.
and when i reached the ending, i thought...
"holy shid, i've been riding this "roller coaster" for more than 3 years and the ending was just this?"
🤢
personally, i wanted aya to win but i think tsukasa is a good choice too.
so, i think it's okay.
but at least the mangaka should make a better finish for aya and the others rather than just that reunion 🙂

I m glad to see that some Aya fans atleast listen to logic and agree Tsukasa's a good choice. But I really want to know what Aya, Satsuki and Tsukasa did in those 4 years. I would also have liked to see a bit more of Tsukasa and Manaka than just the four pages. Oh well people still talking about it means its one of the better mangas of all time
yep, when i read misuzu's additional chapter, i thought the others would get their own chapter too to finish their story with a better conclusion.

When I began reading this manga I was told that the main character doesn't end up with who everyone thought he would end up with. However, throughout most of the manga I truly believed that Tsukasa was the one that was most fitting for him to end up with.
I ended up being very very pleased with the ending of this series, not only did he end up with the girl I wanted him to (which is a plus), but the series had some really great character development.
Surprisingly enough this has become one of my favorite mangas.
i don't think the ending is as good as some people said,
it's a bit unsatisfying. yeah, i'm not satisfied with the ending.
the ending feels like....ummm...flat...nothing special...it's just end.
even though the ending is like that, luckily the artwork and the characters made this manga to be still loved.
If it was as close to doom as you say it was I doubt people would still be talking about it 2 1/2 years later.
Oh and 1000th post! 😉

u misunderstand me. 🙂
who said it was close to doom? didn't i said it's saved by the artwork, the characters and the storyline?
what i tried to say was, even though some people said they don't like the ending, i think the artwork, the storyline, and the characters can make them to keep on loving this manga.
and about why people are still talking about this manga, it's because this manga are worth to be discussed and it also because of the pro and contra.
*note:
i already edited my previous post to prevent further misunderstanding.

if u want a toujo aya ending, i got an idea 🤣 , we can just imagine that manaka didnt pick up nishino at the airport, and after the party reunion, tojo needs a ride and manaka drops her off, but then toujo steals a kiss, then passionately kiss again, THE END they be together!

I still think Nishino Tsukasa was the most compatible with Manaka and was the best choice for him. I explained my reasons here at post made by darkmage Post #263658 -http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?page=9&tid=89. You guys can go back and check if you have any spare time.
I think Tsukasa deserved Manaka more than anyone else and she was the most developed character in the whole manga as she actually changed and matured over the manga while the other characters were pretty much stuck with what they started off with until the last few chapters. I mean Manaka, Satsuki and Aya pretty much remained the same over the whole manga unlike Tsukasa
However I can see why some would find this ending unsatisfactory because the author could've shown how Aya and Satsuki have moved on and found love of their own with boys who love them alot. Like what she showed for Misuzu. But the fact that this thread is still going is proof in itself that that ichigo100% was a great manga as it can still keep people interested enough to debate over it even after 3 years of its ending. You don't see people discussing Suzuka and other mangas like that any more as they were too prdictable where the main guy always ends up with the 1st girl that he met no matter how deserving the other girls are, they didnt stand a chance all beause they were a little late in meeting the main guy. Too cliche but ichigo100% kept you guessing right until the very end.

maybe because of that...but...i'm not sure either...
but one thing for sure, i think the ending is too lame for such a good manga.

well, i don't want to argue about which girl is the best for junpei.
i guess everyone have their own point of view. so i don't think i have the good to argue about this matter.
it's just, everytime i see the ending, i feel...flat...
i expected something more satisfying.
a great manga needs a great ending. and the ending for this manga is too lame for such a great manga.
some people said the ending is good, the best, or something like that...but well, i didn't find it that good.

whoever junpei would end up with, i don't think it would be a cliche as long as she can make them end with an unpredictable way.
just remember, people still discuss it till now is mainly because of the pro and contra about the ending. it's not really something good since it doesn't make the mangaka and the publishers want to make another works related to this manga anymore. moreover, some of the argument only make people hate each others and harms the mangaka's reputation.
the good fact is, they think this manga is worth to be discussed because it's a good manga.

Sorry about that I meant misuzu. I just went back and corrected my last post. Its just like what you said it everyone have their own point of view but I can clearly back up my point of view with logic and no matter how I think about it Toujo just didn't have enough moments like that with Manaka to be his special girl except that she shared the same dreams as him. I think she was much more compatible with Amachi
