Well I recently went through the Star Wars Trilogy (the old ones) and also am currently watching old episodes of Star Trek is there anything similar to Star Trek or Star Wars?

Outlanders - a fun sci-fi manga with hapless earthling lead and a scantily clad alien princess... I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it... the only manga I've read that might classify as "space opera"

Unfortunately, I think almost everything listed in that thread are manga adaptions inferior to their light novel/anime counterparts.

This all basically manga based off of there things I kinda want more original titles not really watered down work.

All in all they're still suggestions of series' whether it be novel, manga or anime.

Honestly, you're going to have much better luck with this sort of thing in anime. The Macross franchise for instance, is very much a space opera and there always seems to be at least one new space opera anime every year. Think fall of last year had one that was supposed to be decent but can't recall the name at the moment.
