Hmm...

1) FUKUMOTO Nobuyuki (Zawa)
2) NIHEI Tsutomu (This dude's just crazy awesome.)
3) ARAKI Hirohiko (Look, everyone likes the awesome of Jojo)
4) [a]IM Dal Young[/a] (Well that one's Korean)
5) AOYAMA Gosho (You know, Conan and Yaiba and Kid)

In that order of course, though I'm a bit unsure which order I want those first 2 in.

First 4 were easy. They were all the people I actually went "That was awesome" then read everything I could they'd written.

EDIT: I changed my mind.
1) FUKUMOTO Nobuyuki
2) TAKAHASHI Hiroshi
3) NIHEI Tsutomu
4) IWAAKI Hitoshi
5) ARAKI Hirohiko

Mangakas whose works I've been reading for a long time (and consistently enjoying), and whose new works I'll read without question are:

TORIYAMA Akira
TOGASHI Yoshihiro
URASAWA Naoki
MIDORIKAWA Yuki
AKIRA Shouko

I tried to get representatives from the shounen, seinen, and shoujo genres onto the list since I read all three. A few months ago, I would have put MORIMOTO Kozueko (for josei) on the list instead of AKIRA Shouko (a shoujo artist), but Deka Wanko has really fallen flat for me. If, by chance, it picks up and becomes as great as her earlier works, I'd put her back into my top five with AKIRA Shouko coming in at a high #6.

There's newer mangakas out there whose works I enjoy a lot (like TAMURA Ryuuhei, SHIIBASHI Hiroshi, and if she can be counted, Yu Wo), but I feel like a mangaka has to have at least a couple of completed works that I enjoyed from beginning to end in order to qualify as a "top 5" mangaka for me.

Hmm.. my favorites, in no particular order, would be:

Motomi Kyousuke
Tamura Yumi
Nakamura Yoshiki

And, as an "honorable mention," Mitsuki Kako. She's not on par with the others, but she consistently makes fluffy, sweet stories that I enjoy reading.

I don't have a fifth favorite mangaka. After those three (plus the honorable mention), I usually base things off of the individual manga, not by the mangaka.

For now, my top 5 are
TAMURA Yumi - BASARA saikou!!! XD I really love her stories, they've got real unique characters. The art style is unique too, quite strange at first but when you get used to it, it's simply great!!
MORI Kaoru If you love historical manga (like me) then she is one of the best out there biggrin
OBATA Takeshi Both story and art are perfect <3 (especially the art)
YUMEKA Sumomo All her stories are so poignant, art style is gorgeous too
WATANABE Taeko - Kaze Hikaru<3 so cuteee!!!!
I spent quite some time to decide between [m]Toume Kei[/m] and Watanabe Taeko, even thought about choose them both but ah well can't list all my favorite authors here anyway, there are still so many other great authors out there too.

You do know that he works with someone who writes the stories for him most of the time, right?

Hmmmm. Good question. I love so many.
I guess my top 5 (right now anyway...I'm always finding new mangakas to admire) would be:
Yana Toboso
Hiromu Arakawa
Bisco Hatori
Tite Kubo
...and Clamp. Dunno if they count as a mangaka, but I love them.
