Ahhh, weak characters and wishy washy heroes. Don't you just hate it when there are like 10 hottest girls around the town all practically throwing themselves at the weakest pussy character ever existed, fighting each other to get him to bed, seducing him left and right, and all he can do is fucking run away!!!!

In such moments I wish somebody would just kill the indecisive doormat in the most painful way imaginable and just be done with it.

How can anyone watch a guy running away scared from a cute girl and find it entertaining is beyond me.

A normal guy would not run away from a cute girl throwing himself at him, he would either make sweet love to her (fucked her brains out) or clearly denied her feelings.

Really pisses me of that such manga keeps coming out(not only manga), and is still one of the most popular genres out there.

Do you guys share my pain over there, or am I the only sane person in this world of madness?

I also hate the weak characters that protect the enemy just because THEY'RE GIRLS. They could barely protect themselves and they want to protect the enemy women from his own allies that just saved his ass?

If the girl is cute, it doesn't matter if she's evil, used me, betrayed me and killed a lot of people. It wasn't her fault, it was the evil man's fault! He corrupted her!

If it was a guy that was evil, used me, betrayed me and killed a lot of people, he is UNFORGIVABLE. Get a sex change and then we'll talk.

I really hate it when the weak ass main character that doesn't have any power, all of a sudden wants to protect the enemy because she's female. But doesn't do the same when the opponent is male.

Kenichi for example, pisses me off because of his attitude. He's like "Hey, that girl can go around beating up people and kill them and even though she's about to kill me and my friends, I won't fight her because she's a girl and OBVIOUSLY she's being manipulated BY A MAN". 🙄

Not all guys will just do any cute girl who confesses to them? I think I would be scared to if I was just a normal/unpopular guy and out of nowhere girls just started throwing themselves at me.

I know what you mean, one girl did such a thing and I ended up thinking that she was psychotic. But that was different because I think she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs or both.

When people flaunting on you its rather daunting if you are in that kind of spot light and are not use to it.

And you are a pussy too if you

I avoid shōnen because this stuff instantly
trolls me beyond belief.

Of course its annoying its even worst when they end up with the wrong girl take ichigo100% for example it was just horrible but still a good story.
Although another book that is wishy washy is ai kora however no matter how you read it its a great book reminds me of love hina
back to the point personally i dont like reading book that contain a weak hero (mainly hero that looks horrible and cant do much other then winning a girls love random with actions that should of killed him) though i wish it would kill them sometimes ^_^ i bear through the ones ive read there are quite a few sadly and for romance harem triangles those are usually ok by the end unless it was meant for a harem ending. Which usually disappoints me since i was hoping hed choose someone.

I know how you feel. Usually when they give a reason why they want to be with them, it's because the main character's supposed to be so nice and sweet (Despite the fact that the dude constantly delays his answer to which girl he likes, or the fact that the girls that aren't the main love interest still try to get him despite him saying that he doesn't want to be with them).

My advice is that you should stop reading or watching those stories. If you see one that looks like it's starting to head that way, then drop it.

The thing is perfect characters are even more bothersome in some ways. Having a character/hero start off as weak or "wishy washy" can be done very well as it provides the character the opportunity to grow a great deal.

Of course if this growth is too slow or fails to occur then it can lead to frustrations for fans.

I know what you mean. It is rather fustrating to read sometimes, especially when the manga itself is revolving around that plot.

Like Loose stated, just drop the manga when it starts heading that way, especially if it looks like the character can't seem to change his way of thinking either.

But hey, this is part of what a cliche shounen plot is. If you dont like, don't read shrugs

the thing is whenever i do pick up a reading project if i read couple chapters even if i dispise it i have to bring myself to finish it

That is the mark of a true reader yes yes dorky nerdy whatever it relieves my stress

even if the manga seems to be bad i will force myself to read it to the end and the thing is im not after a perfect charactor just one not so...stupid .

AH!! i just remembered another wishy washy book i finished to-love-ru rito~~ sigh well his charactor design is fine i wish he choose someone T.T and worst of all that was a rushed ending

well in a perfect world all the mangas would end how i like it but that would turn out boring.

I read mangas because its a passion i wont stop just because i HATE the main charactor which reminds me of junpei from ichigo 100% i really hated his indecisiveness through half the book

I also hate the weak characters that protect the enemy just because THEY'RE GIRLS.

Dito. There are so many mangas where often mainly girls are the powerful ones and then some random character (much too often the main character) refuses to hurt them or even tries to defend them against an evil man (if the evil one is a woman, he tries to stop the fight entirely, since 'girls shouldn't fight'), although he's just useless in a fight.

People have insanely strong attacks and strength and abilities and know amazing martial arts or something and had 50% of their bones broken twice; but hey, he wouldn't hurt them, since they're frail girls. Let's not talk about sexism here: it's plain stupid.

Even the biggest Chauvinist on earth, if put in a usual shonen scenario, would not refuse protection of a female or say: hey, I'm totally useless - since this is a crazy fantasy world of super powers or some historic time where everyone can use a sword as if it where a kitchen knife, and I can't even hold one; or perchance I'm not able to use martial arts, but she is a master in it - so I will better not retreat but rather be a hindrance to the one obviously being capable of protecting me and fighting for her life; since I really got my pride and principles.

And same backward: The women who are usually the coolest and strongest and most capable ones blushing at some macho phrase or being afraid of bugs (I mean: who on earth is afraid of bugs; save those with an actual phobia?) or being captured and rescued by the male hero or trying to learn cooking, since they suck at it and it is common knowledge a woman's worth is not decided by her personality or her merits or her abilities ord her will, but by her cooking performance (and I could go on and on with the list); those really really piss me off, even more than the men mentionend before.

Now, finally, regarding wishy-washy shounen protagonists. It really depends on how 'wishy-washy' they are. Being emotional is a plus, actually. Being shy is definitely cute and automatically a sympathy-gainer. Being angsty or something is kinda cool, given the right context and protagonist and bla bla bla. But being a bloody coward is not that great, unless those cases, where it may, as a matter of fact, be quite originally, and a fitting character trait, making the character actually more likeable and more easily identified with.

All well there. What I really really really hate are the indecisive ones, who go falling for every girl looking at them, and just as much the girls falling for them. And even more if making big speeches about commitment and having a view on the world as narrow as the small intestine, while not being committed nor anything else near commitment. Dude, choose free love or choose commitment, or choose chastity. Whatsomever. But not making a choice, drowning in self-pity and playing macho... Damn.

I second the authors killing them. Annoying main characters should die a nice funny death and step aside for other characters to create a manga. Same for the whiny shoujo-heroines. They don't even have an annoying character, they don't have character at all.

That'a all I wanted to write.

The plot in these mangas are usually an excuse to show a beutiful girl giving attention to the protagonist.
Most boys want to get attention from girls, so it is easy to like stuff like this. There's appeal to the public. It is pretty obvious.

Any show (manga, anime, movie, etc) have something absurd, some more, some less. If you like coherence, you will need a stong stomach to read these. I can forgive a amount of crap to enjoy a manga. Of course, when it is too much, I just drop it.

Also remeber that these manga are intended to young boys, not the people who seem to mind those details.

The "wishy washy hero" isn't exclusive to shounen...shoujo has it too, most notably Parfait Tic!...Its a steaming pile of sh*t, never read it. Stupid twit can't make up her mind and cries all the time.
