Im getting a PS3 for myself come X-mas. My reasons were the following.
1) I don't like shooters, so Xbox doesn't have great appeal towards me.
2) I love RPGs so PS3 all the way
3) All my favourite games come out for PS3 only
4) I don't want to pay $70 a year for online play.

1) Xbox has some good RPGs on its system, like Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata, both games are above 9 star rated, and Blue Dragon was created by the same team that did Chrono Trigger.

2) Xbox actually has some good RPG's yet to come, too. Like Lost Odyssey (Created by the man who created Final Fantasy, with music by Nobuo Uematsu, and character designs by Takehiko Inoue (Slam Dunk and Vagabond), and Infinite Undiscovery by Tri-Ace and Square Enix.

3) Actually, very few games are PS3 exclusives, now. Mostly Metal Gear Solid and the Final Fantasy's (Although, there are FF games coming out for Nintendo's Wii and DS).

4) Online is $50.00 a year for the Gold service. Silver is free and comes with the system.

I just got Rock Band and it's hella dope. The game is well worth the $160 (I preordered it and my local gamecrazy had a shipping error and i had to wait until the 21st to get it and got 10 bucks off) . Well the only thing i can say bad about it right now is the guitar. It sucks becuase my guitar just broke right now. The strum just all of a sudden broke on me. Well that's why i'm online becuase of this 60 day hardware warranty and to replace my guitar. I didn't even last a day.

Gold membership would make it exactly $500 and equal in price to the PS3
smile I don't care much for the Japanese RPGs for the 360. My problem isn't the 360, but my limit on the internet to play the games. If I'm only able to be online a few hours, I wouldn't get much time to do what the 360 is made to do, which is battle fools online.

I know about Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata and Lost Odyssey. Blue Dragon got 6/10. Eternal Sonata got 8.5/10. Lost Odyssey isn't rated but looks very promising. So the problem is Blue Dragon has a low rating and is based on the anime rather than manga. I'm very cautious of Eternal Sonata even though it got a good rating, also it's also coming for the PS3. So that leaves only Lost Odyssey which looks amazing. Didn't know about Infinite Undiscovery until you mentioned it. Looks interesting to say the least but I don't have enough information to make a fair opinion.

The games I want:
Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition
Eye Of Judgment
Star Ocean 4

Also I'm waiting for the new Shin Megami Tensei for PS3 and personally nothing can beat that for me since I'm a big mythology fan biggrin

I got all the ratings from gamespot.com

That wasn't a shipping error, the release date for Rock Band was this past tuesday.

Also, Meta, gamespot is hardly a reliable source for game ratings considering they take bribes to write good reviews.

Blue Dragon was actually worked on along time before any anime or manga was made. The game first (it's had been in production for years). Also, most low ratings for Blue Dragon I have read mention that the style of system used for the battle system is too old. It's a classic battle system thats turn based, but it also reminds me of the FFX battle system (The Conditional Turn-Based System).

Also, the game is three discs long. It's not that short, by any means.

Gamespot takes bribes? Seriously? Then what site do you use for game ratings, IGN, 1UP, GameSpy? Well I wanted Blue Dragon when it came out and before I saw the ratings, now since you told me that the rating is inaccurate it might be one of the few games that I'll miss having when I get the PS3. I got my heart set on the new Shin Megami Tensei. Let's hope it will be worth the wait.

I generally don't read one site's view on a game, over anothers.

I read a few different websites, and try and see which reviews have different aspects to them. A good site for compilings of game ratings would be metareview.com, also gamerankings.com is another good website.

I use Gamespot.com mostly for keeping an online list of what games I own.

If you look at gamerankings.com you can see that a few sites like Gamespot game Blue Dragon a bad review, seemingly on purpose.

Game Informer gave the game a solid 9 out 10, citing mostly its classic gameplay, creative team, wonderful graphics, and amazing soundtrack for the score. Famitsu, the highest rated Japanese video gaming magazine, gave the game a 37 out 40, a score Famitsu also gave Halo 3.

Yeah, the game was supposed to come out on Tuesday the 20th and i went to gamecrazy and they said that they didn't get it. So i went the next day and they had it and they gave me 10 bucks off.

And yeah i kinda stopped going to gamespot.

The one thing that I can say about reviews is this: Don't take them seriously. Also try to look up games that are recommended by word of mouth because 9 times out of 10 they are pretty damn good. Gabe over at Penny Arcade had a great article about this last week when Assassin's Creed came out. I was just going to type the thing out or quote it but I won't do so and instead will give a link. Click Here, second article on the page.

Main reason for link is two fold. First the language in the post isn't something that I would post here, and two what he says is a hell of a lot better than anything that I could say to sum him up.

Also since everyone was talking about RPGs just wanted to point out another one on the 360. Mass Effect, while not your typical RPG, action is more of a 3rd person shooter, the game is amazing and since it's Bioware you can expect dlc in the future.

Thanks for the info everyone. I went to all the sites recommended and read the article. Now I got one last question. Is this the site you were talking about Kaioh?

metareview.com

Cause it doesn't look like it, and I found this one.

Metareviews from joystiq.com

If you're looking for a reviews aggregate site, check out Metacritic's game section or GameRankings.

Metareview is the proper site. You have to click the video games section on the left.

Metareviews by Joystiq are also pretty good.

And yeah, I mentioned Gamerankings, they tend to be a pretty good source of information.

I have slight interest in Mass Effect, very slight. I mostly play JRPG's.

Also, DLC is second in any game I play. Most times you have to pay for it, and that gets annoying. Take the recent release of Need For Speed: Pro Street. If you look at the download content for it, which costs a total of $35 for all it, you can also look at the size of the files, about 108KB each file. This means you're not unlocking new content, your unlocking content on the disc you ALREADY PAID FOR. They are essentially making you pay TWICE for content you've already legally purchased and are entitled to.

Thats why I HATE DLC so much. Everyones always trying to make an extra buck, and that pisses me off.

In my book, Bioshock is already a ten out of ten game. If it had multiplayer, that number would obviously go to 11. However, I don't feel games NEED multiplayer to be good.

Most multiplayer is annoying, especially games like Halo 3 (I swear to god, if I have to play Shotty Snipers one more god damn time...), multiplayer is extremely overrated.

I was completely leaning towards the PS3 but just a few minutes ago I started leaning towards the 360. Although I would love a Blu-Ray player, it comes to my mind that I only really want to watch 300 again. I would also love to play Ninja Gaiden Sigma but that's the only game I would need until the two FF games. 360 usually has the better multi-platform reviews, and more games ARE coming out for it. It's still killing me the wireless adaptor is 100 fucking dollars and that just kills me.

Don't worry about Sigma since Ninja Gaiden 2 is being released in 2008 for 360. as well as the Prototype
