since considering that B-U haven't given it a proper genre..
let me ask you which is it?..
---------
is it Shoujo/Josei or Shounen/Seinen
--------
well for me considering that the main charac is a 19 year old female colleage student it could be considered Shoujo..but i will vote for Shounen/Seinen cause about the 80% of the plot evolves around prince and his companions xP not to mention it having a harem feel to it lol..
and in later chapters notably vol 5 its giving more and more seinen feel to the prince xP..
---------
So Discuss whats your opinion...
-----
PS post please ^^ don't just vote and leave..its not fair for the topic xP///

Solved with a simple googling.

The opinions on what it "seems" like are irrelevent, it is serialized in dragon youth magazine, which a small amount of investigation will reveal is shounen, ergo, 1/2 Prince is a shounen manga.

Actually, the 'demographic by magazine' only applies to Japanese mags. Chinese publishers do not categorize the same way.

But since a demographic is kinda required here at MU:
Dragon Youth Comic is a sister mag of the Chinese 'Shounen Jump' (Formosa Youth), just doing manhua of the same kind. So 'shounen' would be indeed the correct demographic.

This is correct. From a general standpoint we oversimplify demographics here at MU anyway, so I just made the leap while trying to get the basic information across. Just categorizing in a more standard fashion was a little hasty without any explanation, sorry about that.

its a combination of both, From my POV it seems the author aimed at both male at female when he/she wrote the novel

This isn't as clear cut as being only shounen or only shoujo... just like Feng Lan's game identity.....

I HAVE ASWER THIS QUESTION IN 2 POSTS ONE MANGAFOX

2ND POST:.

I'm really glad there is a person intellegent here >.< this is actually like basara. I thought people who read 1/2 Prince liked to read other mangas too but doesn't seem like that... If you really read a lot of mangas you will undrstand that shoujo isn't only romance and shounen action. Don't you belive meconfused? Than go see that mangas listed below...

Hana no Asukagumi! http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=4485 --> or do you think this is shounen tooconfused??
Kaze yo, Banri wo Kake yo http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=4740 --> is this shounen too?
Twilight of the Dark Master http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=6826
...
or basara http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=264 --> and principally this one DO YOU THINK THIS IS SHOUNENconfused?

FIRST POST :.

OMG!!!! I can't belive there is people who considere this shounen!!!! I have read a lot of mangas, and when I tell a lot I really mena a lot, and I know the different between a shpujo or shounen. I admit mans like this manga too but just don't say this is shounen because this isn't. Shoujo is a manga primally for the females. This doesn't mean a shoujo manga has to have romance and can't have comedy. If any of you use mangaupdates or any other site who give you the oportunity to look for mangas of a type of gender try ti look action, comedy and shouko you will certnly find something. Why is shoujo? The art is shoujo, there is a lot of bishies, and the story is written mainly to young girls. Until now I have know only about 2 or 3 shounen mangas with Bl, boys love, elements and this is none of that.

If I had to pick one or the other, I would have to label it a shoujo manga with action simply because of the love triangle. If there was no love triangle, then I might label it a shonen manga because of all the action; however, bishonen are also a running gag in this manga, so an argument in the other direction could be made based on that fact alone.

However, I think this is a manga that both genders could enjoy equally, so why not add BOTH "shonen" and "shoujo" under the genre tag? It's an unusual thing to do, but as other readers have pointed out, Chinese magazines aren't as strict in targeting their readership to a certain audience as Japanese magazines are, so the artist probably isn't being particular about targetting a certain audience either.

I agree with brid... i know some guys who would gag at reading shoujo... meaning diehard shounen manga fans... they picked up 1/2 ouji.. and regardless of the love triangle /bishounen.. they said they felt it was pretty shounen.
You can't compare manga art with manhua style and say just because there are bishounen means that this is meant only for girls. Nor because there is a love triangle. Let me remind you there is implied shoujo ai sometimes... specially with Prince and all those girls, prince kissing Rose. Don't forget that shoujo mangas don't have big breasted girls, unless they are specifically made to be a slutty character. Whereas in 1/2 Prince all the girls.. yes "almost" all of them have them... now i wonder why a shoujo manga would need to give fan service by having big breasted women everywhere. I think i understand what the author is trying to do here.. you know gender equality, a sentiment that Prince expresses in chapter 1 of the novel? I think the author is conveying that by targetting BOTH girls and boys... do you get the idea?

For some reason I think of it as shoujo. I guess I feel it doesn't have all the characteristics that a shounen manga should have. Plus, you can see Prince/Feng Lan's development/growth, which sometimes is rare in a shounen manga.
I guess that due to the point of view of the manga makes me think of a shoujo, because at certain points Prince wonders how she should act...and that's something that rarely(?) happens in a shounen manga.

Glad you understand it...

Have you ever read Basara confused ? It's so much shoujo as 1/2 Prince. Read it and you will find out...
Just because a manga has fights it doesn't mean it shounen. biggrin
