One Piece is way better, being rank 34th overall... rating is 8.81... death note was rank 96th overall....rating is 8.67... and the highest rank manga here in BU is - Skip Beat? wow.. though i haven't read it yet... rating is 9.07 for skip beat...

While the quality of a manga series is undoubtedly important, in the long run quality doesn't necessarily mean that series will be successful. Why Naruto can be viewed as a "great manga" is not necessarily how good it is, but how many people are willing to read it. The major list that publishers would be looking at is this list and not this list. Just being devil's advocate, but so what if One Piece is viewed as being a better series? (BTW, if you can't tell by my avatar, I actually like One Piece) The fact is that there are more people (at least, according to the statistics) who read Naruto than there are people who read something like One Piece. Sometimes (for example, like if a publisher is deciding whether to continue publication or not), that's the only thing that really matters.

When it comes to story&plot One Piece > Naruto
When it comes to art&style Bleach > Naruto
And naruto is more popular then those two. Naruto is plain, old battle manga that we've read thousands of times. I dont see anything special.
And if it wasnt for its anime, naruto wouldnt be this popular. Also if you consider how much better One Piece sells than Naruto, 6500+ becomes insignificant. OP IS the best selling manga ever.

The ranking of series by rating on Manga-Updates is worthless. Fans of shoujo series tend to give very high rankings to anything they like (pardon the generalization, but it's generally true), and series with relatively few rankings can therefore make their way to the top. On the other hand, a well-known series like Naruto will have lots of people who dislike it and give it lower ranks. You'll notice that Naruto has four times the number of user ratings than the #2 on that list, Dengeki Daisy.

Even a quick look at that list will tell you the obvious: it's a popularity contest, not a ranking of genuinely good series. Oh, there's a few very good series up there, but they're also popular. And the popular series that aren't (almost) universally liked get lower rankings, even when they're better than some of the other series up there.

For the record, Naruto > Skip Beat, IMHO.
