This week's poll was suggested by imt0203. Does similar interests in manga/anime matter to you when choosing a significant other? How about other interests?

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Are you more likely to read a comic in which the names have been "localized" for English audiences, like Yukito Tsukishiro to Julian Star?
Choices:
No, the names don't match the characters and their cultures - votes: 2117 (59.7%)
No, I can typically learn to recognize characters - votes: 590 (16.6%)
It doesn't matter - votes: 661 (18.6%)
Yes, they're less confusing - votes: 128 (3.6%)
Yes, they're more relatable - votes: 49 (1.4%)
There were 3545 total votes.
The poll ended: April 4th 2020

To be honest, when I'm reading novels I have a hard time keeping all the Korean and Chinese names straight.

We did it reddit. We protected Japan´s precious Protoculture by refusing to see that localizations can be part of thorough translations. The mass market and especially the Netflix-and-chill kids better learn their Japanese or whatever to follow their mass-market youth shows and comics.

No, it doesn't matter at all. Just hypothetically of course. Who came with this poll, Nick Hornby?

I agreed that what really matters is what you like, not what you are like. Books, records, films - these things matter. Call me shallow but it's the fuckin' truth, and by this measure I was having one of the best dates of my life.

The new High Fidelity Hulu adaptation by is mostly good btw.

No, it doesn't matter at all

I'd say it's more important that they appreciate it rather than if they like it or take an interest in it. Best example I can think of is when my folks had Project Runway or a sports game on. I didn't like the programs, and wouldn't go out of my way to watch them outside of a passing interest, but you can appreciate the work going into it and the process taking place. And, while I'd like my future spouse to appreciate my interests, I'd also want to be able to appreciate her's.

A guy liking anime/manga definitely isn’t important to me. I think similar interests are important to the extent that they impact lifestyle and values, but when you get down to the minutiae of exactly which TV shows or books you like, it doesn’t matter.

I chose it doesn't matter to me.

There are core traits about a persons personality that I feel are a must. So long as they have those traits as a foundation to their personality, I feel it would work out even if we didn't share any interest for each others hobbies. It is nice to be able to share hobbies, but at the same time, it is not deal breaker for me.

Actually, it doesn't matter to me, but It would be nice If we have a same interest point that called anime/manga, Right?

It's not that important.
I mean, if he likes anime/manga, great. But if he doesn't, I'd like him to respect the fact that I like it.

There are obviously films like Wierd Science about Frankensteining the perfect waifu but I remember a film from the 00s or the 2010s about a man manipulating women into becoming a Mini-Me of him before he dropped them. It might have been a sub-plot. Like a bleaker take on About Time (2013). That one is also really twisted for a rom-com. What was it? Do your thing brain.

I had a hard time with last week's poll. I don't usually see a reason to change the characters' names, but it also depends on the setting. If it's set in Europe and everyone is called Hanamichi Sakuragi, it would help my sanity if the translators put some decent names there in the dub version.

Another thing is if it's dub or not. It's weird to hear a name and read another one in the subtitles.

But for this week's poll: No, it doesn't matter at all, as long as she respects what I enjoy. She doesn't need to like it, but she should be someone decent enough to understand everyone likes different things and that's all right.

Yes, as said above, If she/he respects to What you enjoy, everyone should respect each other.

Joining the No, it doesn't matter at all bandwagon. The last manga my fiancee read was Sailor Moon.

Also super amused that grigo can't get over how most people want to experience an original story in as close to its original form as possible 🙂 Almost like that's the whole reason we're here on mangaupdates reading manga and not watching anime that were shittily adapted from those manga!

And yes, I did learn Japanese for that reason 😛

Another one for the "respect/accept my hobby, with or without liking said hobby yourself" wagon.
Seriously. It doesn't matter. It's great if one can share stuff related to hobbies with their significant other, but it's certainly not necessary for a healthy relationship, nor is it a guarantee for one.

Not a necessity, but a big plus.
