In general, I feel manga is better than anime.

the discontinuity between manga panels allows you to fill in the gaps using your own imagination. That way, everyone gets their own perfect version of the story (just like how books are superior to movies).

That said, I'd like to reiterate what many of the previous posters have stated, on how it depends on the anime/manga. Certain stories are simply better if you can see them in fluid motion (ie: some action sequences) or hear the emotions of good voice actors (dramas and comedies).

Just my two pennies.

Well with some manga you can't really enjoy certain aspects as much as you could in an anime (like an awesome race in let's say Initial D or a great fight sequence). But I generally prefer manga because it's faster to read and takes less time.

I think Manga is the better of the two because 99% of the time the story/characters etc. are fleshed out a lot more then in Anime.
Yet for a full on action manga/anime it is always nice to see your favorite character fighting with someone fully animated then just panel by panel...

Quote from Dawnveil

If there's a LOT of action that doesn't translate well to manga, then I say go the anime route (Initial D fits this bill well, as reading a manga about drift racing just doesn't get the adrenaline pumping in those 'you have to be there in it' moments as well). The flip side of the coin is that anything heavy in dialogue and drama is usually better done in manga, as the 10 min discussion in an anime episode usually just tends to be flat out boring, whereas reading it you at least expect dialogue that long.

I mostly agree with the above opinion as generally is very hard to do justice to action sequences in manga the way anime can. I even found myself thinking as I read some mangas “I would love to see this made into an anime so I can see it in motion…”
On the other hand emotions usually can be better conveyed in manga than anime as more details are shared for the most part in manga than in anime. Also, the pacing between one genre and the other is much different so it can change the tone of the story radically.
There are exceptions of course and those are usually a good thing and/or pleasant surprise. But generally I found what’s said to be true.

I prefer manga, no doubt about it. They are usually better drawed than their anime counterparts and, for some reason, I just can't stand the colours.

Besides, when you live in a family of six, you can rarely take the TV and watch an anime, since the family members look like this:

Mom, age 45, hates violence and is overprotective.
Dad, age 51, hates needless violence.
Sister, age 17, watches her own drama movies and tends to take the TV before me.
Brother, age 7, isn't allowed to watch movies with violence or nudity AND stays up till about 21:00.
Brother, age 5, same as above.

I think you get my point by now...

i vote anime...but only under certain circumstances
i like manga more for the story/plot
i like anime better cuz the art can be better, plus theres music and sound and voices and they actually move,
but at times i will like manga better if the anime is not well made...ex: Negima!

The only series where I like the anime more is probably Yakitate Japan. The reactions are much more entertaining.

I feel that manga is usually a lot better than the anime. (And I do say, usually.) In a manga, it's what the mangaka originally intended it to be, and how he/she wanted the characters to be, the sequences, and how the plot progresses. A lot of the time, I would read a manga first and when I start to watch the anime version I get angry if they're butchering the story. For example, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (Okay, it's not that bad but still...), Claymore, Samurai Deeper Kyo (AARGH! Just AARGH! Don't get me started on this...), and so on. Even so, there are a few series in which I feel that anime is better than the manga. Like, Jigoku Shoujo (Well, anime came first...), Gintama, and Blood+. In the end, I think manga is better. 🙄

It seems that some people are making assumptions about the poll. I doesn't say 'which is better, the manga version or the anime version of the same thing'. It just says which is better 'manga' or 'anime'. Most people aren't factoring in that some things are made just in anime or just in manga, and don't cross over (or the crossover fails, since usually the original is superior). And yes, not all anime comes from manga. Just thought I'd clarify that too.

I hate anime a lot. If my friends/sister watch then I will too, but it makes me far to angry. >:-( although some times I look up a specific fight sequence from a manga, I have no spacial reasoning skills so I need the help. Then I get irritated at how frustrating it is to find a specific scene.

and then i feel guilty going to anime conventions. 😢

manga is usually my favorite. although ive never been a big fan of manga based off of an anime.(same as a book based off a movie....)while i do have some favorite anime, they're usually just fighting series or ova's( i hate crappy animating)

I've always liked whatever came first better. If the anime came first, then I liked that better. If the manga came first, which is usually the case, I like manga. The original is always the author's original thought. Any do-overs often screw things up.
