Why isn't this series labled shonen-ai? Is it because the relationships between the men are (heavily) implied, but never acted out? (I only read to volume 12.) I mean, come on. It's obviously shonen-ai. Why isn't it labled?

Kinda tragic... such an amazing series, and it might never be continued... 😢

Um... Y'know you can add the shounen-ai genre yourself if you've been upgraded to an Updater...?

edit. never mind, I'll just do it for you. 😛

I don't think that is enough to label it shounen-ai. It has some undertones, but I don't see how it's obviously shounen ai.

Personally, I thought there was a bit, with all the licking and stuff. But then again, I haven't read far enough to say, so perhaps I should just remove the tag for now and see what others have to say?

I don't think there's any shounen-ai in X/1999. There are lots of series like this (especially CLAMP ones); where the BL (or GL) is only implied and never canonically represented; or is between side characters and not the MCs. This is why I added the 'shounen-ai subplot' and 'slash' categories.
The relationship between Kamui and Fuuma can be classified as 'slash', while that between Subaru and Seiishirou goes under 'shounen-ai subplot'. The straight couples, of course, are canon - and obviously warrant the inclusion of the 'romance' genre tag.

isn´t there a possibility to add BL subtext tag?

Actually, 'Slash' means 'BL subtext' 🙂

I don't think that is enough to label it shounen-ai. It has some undertones, but I don't see how it's obviously shounen ai.

The thing between Kamui and Keiichi is an undertone - in my opinion it's there, because of the way Keiichi treats Kamui - he's protective over him, as demonstrated during the earthquakes. Holding another guy like that - one he just met, by the way - isn't normal male behavior. This is my opinion, though. And like tsuto said, that isn't enough.

But.

It's obviously shonen-ai because of the close relationship between Kamui and Fuma, with the intimate touches and licking and such. (And always coming so close to kissing...) I think that's the reason why it should be labled shonen-ai. Because I think the thing going on between them is enough. 😃
