my mum knows about it and stuff, I talk to her a lot about it, give her a book and say read that. She knows I read yaoi and stuff too, doesn't agree to it, but she does know it. Mum tends to look at the plot more then the art.
My Dad is more one to buy anime instead of manga, he doesn't read much but he has lots of comics like Batman etc.
The thing is though, it's like "oh it has a cartoon on it with big eyes. we'll get her that!"
🙄

Well, I am totally left out of this poll. I am the parent involved. Just thought that I would gritch a little. 😀

Ah, sorry about that...

Wow, another poll I can't participate in.

I'm grown, so it really doesn't matter what I do...

Yeah, but you still have parents, you can post about how they'd feel about it even if it doesn't really matter. 🤣

My mom knows I read, but she's indifferent. My stepmom doesn't really know what the hell I do on the computer. And my dad... well my dad calls manga "those black and white things that you spend all your time looking at". Yeah XD

urgh... My mom often gets bored and wants to read a new book, but every time I try to subtly suggest some manga to her, even if it's a series that cannot possibly be mistaken for "comic book/pokemon" genre, like With the light, she's like, "that's not a real book..." I'm like... 🤢

But then again she DID watch Millennium Actress with me. And that was subtitles-only! Gotta give her credit for that.

I keep most of my manga out on the family bookshelf, hoping that maybe some member of the family will pass by and be like, "what's this? 'death note', eh? sounds interesting!"

It's the same with my anime, I put it in the DVD shelf by the TV and hope some one might someday say, "Hey, how come we've never watched this 'Metal Alchemy' thing?"

If I say the word, "manga" to my mum,
she says, "Huh.... one mango, two manga??"....

Yup!... she thinks manga is some newfangled word pertaining to more than one mango. 🤣

That is too funny! omg

My dad refers to all anime/manga related anything as "YugiGugimon"

I'm pretty sure he's tryin to make fun of me.

well my dad has really no idea what manga or anime even are..he can't even pronounce the words lol

as for my mom she knows about it, i have talked about it often enough, and i have tried to get her to watch it, but she cant stand the subtitles and even dubbed anime didn't seem to interest her...so we don't really talk about it anymore...its actually quite depressing ... hehe 😢 😀

I voted for the "they tried to convince me to stop" option, but it's more like a "they've given up all hope of trying to get me to stop reading manga as long as my grades stay up" kind of situation.

yeah me too... when i told them i was reading manga, they didn't care at all but they saw i was addicted to it and "it was getting in the way" so they tried to convince me to stop... well of course they couldn't and gave up... as long as i get straight A's 😃 yup, they'll get mad even if i get a B, they'll let me do whatever i want... sometimes i tried to talk to my mom about manga but she was a little interested but not enough sigh oh well... 😛

Well, my parents do not stack on this matter
since my father does have some interest in it and
my mother has got nothing, nil, nix, nada, null, aught,
cipher, cypher, goose egg, naught, zero, zilch, zip, zippo
to do with it or liking it.

My parents think it's a waste of time and money, and try to get me to study more T_T
They also think that reading shonen manga with fighting scenes will promote violence and unstable emotions, which I think it's totally unfair!
But for most, I guess they don't really care, since I can buy manga with my own savings. Though they nag a little... 🤢

I've tried to get my parents into it~

I've watched a few anime with my dad when I was younger. I bugged him to change the channel when he's watching sports... (I just realized how much of a spoiled brat I was lol). I mean, I have my own TV in my room, but it's more fun to watch it together.

My mom likes Ghibli stuff a lot. She doesn't read manga though, except for Vagabond.
