Simple request, a good story (preferably at least one full volume) with a very plain, average, or awkward guy in a love triangle competing against a really cool, confident, good-looking guy. When I say the main character's plain and awkward, I don't mean like Keitarou Urashima classic ne'er-do-well idiot. I'm talking about a guy who's got more real value to himself, a guy worth liking, but who's still nothing special on the surface, resulting in his difficulty fighting against a guy who's everything a girl could dream of. Emphasis on how very different people see him than the dreamboat, such as him doing the same thing or something even better and yet he's never given any of the admiration the cool guy receives. Prefer that the guy himself has to deal with this with the girl, struggling to make her see him, maybe even temporarily losing her to him.
I got something similar to this in Ginen Shounen. The hero's far more likable than the standard good-for-nothing protagonist, with his passion and drive making up for his shyness and awkwardness, but he's still nothing special in the looks department, and clearly very awkward and uncool when dealing with girls, the complete opposite of his suave and arrogant rival. Only thing I'd like more of than I got there is to have him actually have to fight for the girl's LOVE, not just her hand. The girl's demonstrated to feel only for the hero from very early on in that series, and basically turns from him because she doesn't feel like it would work or doesn't think she'd be good for him.

It's more or less the premise of Uwagaki, with a little twist. In My Hero! there's something like that in the beginning, but it's overcome quickly. Finally, Saruyama! has kind of an inversion, with the cool guy struggling to no avail to overshadow the more average guy in the eyes of the heroine.

Now reading Uwagaki. Flipped through it at first and it looks pretty cool. Thanks, keep 'em coming.
