alot of girls that i know say they like alot of shounen manga
only cause of to see pretty boys ( yuyu hakusho) or cuteness ( pokemon )
and guys watch shoujo animes just for the hot chicks...

i was wondering if there are anything they personally seek in watching
animes or manga of their opposite gendered genre...

• yaoi and yuri might be included in this conversations
  though, im not 100% sure yuri is meant for guys only

At times I seek something new to read.
Sometimes I just get tired of all those
shonen boobs, oops, I mean plots.
I have tried shojo, yet I get tired of those
bishies, ooops, I mean plots.
Now I'd rather read horror. 🙂
I read manga for some reason that is
just unknown to me.
It can be answered as easily as the reason
of procrastination.

manga for me is entertainment

i put it as the same reason why people watch tv, read a book or play games

shoujo titles has a LOT MORE of those than shounen

Shounen: Because of comedy, comedy, story

Shoujo:: Romance and story

Seinen: Less censorship and more mature themes

Josei: Haven't gotten into this one yet but plan to.

I also read it for:

Action/Martial Arts: mostly since there are some pretty awesome scenes where characters just kick ass.

Adventure: Journey's are just awesome, especially finding new places

Romance: It's just needed in some stories.

Comedy should also be incorporated into every single manga no matter what, even serious themes. Although some people do it wrong and it just pisses me off. The rest of the genres are either obvious or doesn't really matter

I read shounen because it serves as a change of pace. After reading a lot of shoujo love stories, a series with a bunch of fighting is nice. I like variety and balance. I can get my fill of the nice endings (usually), the romance, and drama with shoujo. Meanwhile, shounen can offer more morbid stuff (probably more seinen than shounen) and fights (with lots of blood splattering and cool attacks like the Dempshey Roll, Quick Sword, etc.). I guess all I look for in a shounen manga is change, but of course I also look at plot and art. I don't care how different Air Master is from what I usually read, I hate it becuase I cannot stand the art.

I think you're a little confused on terminology.

Shoujo (and yaoi/shounen ai) is where the "pretty boys" reside. There are barely any "hot chicks" in shoujo, the main heroine is usually cute but is described in the story as boring, average and relatively unattractive (most shoujos).

Shounen is where the "hot chicks" are. Shounen style art is usually more tailored towards "hot chicks" and "cute girls".

And I can assure you that what few shoujo animes that exist, very very few guys would even touch them.

FYI, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha is definitely not Shoujo despite the name.

Entertainment/Boredom...actually it could be both...for most people...

I'm don't really think this is true. Where did you hear that from...?

Anyway, there's no specific reason I like shounen or shoujo. As long as it has a good story, I like it. I don't discriminate. I don't look for pretty boys or hot chicks (though good art is always required XD).
