And if you're willing to try an anime, Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuite Iru, which is airing this season.

I'm not sure these are exactly what you're talking about, but I think they have characters/themes which are right in line with it...Fuyu Hanabi, Gunjou (KIRIHARA Idumi) and Regatta (and just as an aside, I highly recommend anything by HARA Hidenori).
