I know that MU does not allow for OEL, but only if it is not published, as per this post https://www.mangaupdates.com/topic/hhmy49n/unordinary

But now a lot of OEL are now getting paperbacks, does that mean you'll allow them now?

https://www.amazon.ca/unOrdinary-1-uru-chan/dp/0358467802

If so, I hope to see all the Webtoons OELs here because it'll make things easier to track.

I guess it's to disallow low effort indies---but we are already at a point of where we allow one-page twitter "mangas" and not OELs so it doesn't make much sense anymore (maybe it did have sense back then)...

If the OEL webcomic has a release in paperback by a reputable publisher (and not self-published on Amazon), then we will allow it.

So why don't you allow OEL webtoons from reputable online publishers as well? It's not like Line is a random compamy publishing just anything.

Because we have to draw the line somewhere, or else we might as well start adding every issue of Batman

To me it seems the line is quite arbitrary - for example Line is clearly an established Korean/Japanese company and it makes no sense that I can log here just some webtoons I read there based on the language they were originally published in. Especially since they were published by virtually the same company. I don't quite see why a webtoon being published in print changes anything in that matter. But well, not my website and I am happy I can keep track at least of some of the stuff I read. It's just a bit annoying that this policy fragments my reading list and forces me to use Excel haha.

How about we just make this the next idea for an upcoming poll? (Not sure if it is the right place to suggest it here).

My problem is that "one-page" twitter manga are accepted, cancelled/inactive/hiatus manga with less than 20 chapters are in, yet series that have 10k+ of regular viewership and more than 100+ chapters are not allowed in because of their origin being an OEL. Like c'mon, this website is the most useful for when tracking long running series, yet not being able to use it for its intended purpose seems like a waste of potential.

If the intent is to filter from low effort entries, we can make it so that we only accept OELs under the stipulation that the publishing company is in a whitelist OR meet certain conditions (e.g. being a registered corporation in an Asia country; has more than 50 authors registered under it; OR the OEL gets translated to Japanese/Korean; and disallowing amateur/non-published entries like from "Webtoon's Canvas"/"Line's Challenge"/"Manga Plus's Creator" ). Wouldn't that solve it?

I think it’s perfectly acceptable to not include OEL when the main purpose of this site is to track the release of scanlations. There is no translation involved in OEL so it’s strange to include them at all.

WRT oneshot/inactive/hiatus mangas etc, they fall in the purview of this website more than an OEL. Popularity of a work doesn’t change whether a work was scanlated or not.

No OEL at all!!!

I use this site both for licensed translations and fan tl of titles.

While various toon platforms or sites may have originals/canvas, etc., works; THIS site is to find, inform, and review titles from "over there".

I don't want to have to filter out OEL wannabes mimicking the subject or styles of other cultures.

They can be painfully cringe, to excellent and unknowing to readers to be an original work.

This is NOT me making cultural appropriation accusations or advocating for gatekeeping purity tests.

This site, like NovelUpdates.com, should be limited to works that are being translated.

They are NOT sites for the information or distrubution/sale of original works, fanfiction or not!!

I believe ALL OEL should be removed, if already listed.

And if so desired, interested parties can create their own site with a database/index, member/reviewers, moderators, and so on.

Just like AO3 is for transformative works, these two sites are for TRANSLATED works.

Why not allow OEL webtoons from greenleafguru.com reputable online publishers as well? Line isn't just any random company publishing herbalhighsociety.com anything.
