i don't mind, but it does feel tedious to read one. a lot of shoujo mangas follow a bunch of cliches that make me go "uh..." and wish that there was something interesting. there are some that are pretty original, but the cliched, boring ones outweigh the original ones.

I don't really hate it, I just don't like how some girls in Shoujo are portrayed as dumb love struck idiots. I rather read something more Shounen/Senien based. I still read it on occasions though.

Unfortunately, in shounen/seinen, females are often portrayed as clueless lolis or manipulative dominatrixes. Not all shounen/seinen are like this, but enough are to make me skeptical that shoujo mangas are the most egregious in terms of negative gender stereotypes.

Also, plenty of shounen mangas are cliched and boring. It just depends on what types of cliches you, as a reader, have more tolerance for. The one talent shounen authors do seem to have is dragging out stories for years and years (although even there, there are exceptions like Glass Mask), and maybe having more advanced art (although shounen authors tend to be blessed with large staff who fill in backgrounds and details).

It is fair to say that seinen is superior to josei, but that is mostly because seinen is such a large, catch-all demographic.

I don't know, I just don't hate shoujo. I've read my share of shounen/seinen mangas trying to be spectacular or profound, but neither endless action nor pseudo-intellectual drivel does a quality manga make.

Of course, I do wish there were more interesting, varied shoujos that didn't have to do with romance, but there are already quite a few excellent shoujos out there.

I don't hate shoujo really, but I can never finish them! So many of them are long and repetative; I just can't stand it! I still like short shoujo when I feel like reading something bubbly, but I definately prefer josei more and more.

I wouldn't say so.
There are a lot of good shoujo titles.
It's just that a lot of Shoujo are ridiculously childish and shallow. Though I could say that for every type of manga, minus non-ecchi seinen and josei I suppose. (Though I have come across some of those that are still shallow but at least it's portrayed in a realistic way)

What makes me hate shoujo is the stupidity the mangakas give to the main feminine character. All shoujo girls are brainless, they cry all the time and complain all the time while they are looking for a charming prince who usually is also brainless. It's just a terrible model for women. The art usually is poor and ugly.

I like Josei, the stories are better built and there is more variety of characters and the art usually is better.

As it's been already said, the set of common cliches has nothing to do with the demographic itself. There are good and bad shoujo series out there - and, for God's sake, shoujo is not tied to hackneyed school romances. You have ventured to proclaim "all shoujo girls" brainless crybabies, but did you really read all shoujo manga? A number of titles (check X-Day, Rokutousei Supika or other series, favourable reviewed in this thread) don't feature that type of a girl you've described as a protagonist (not to mention series with male protagonists). I believe a very few readers are really fond of generic art and predictable plot, but it's not like any demographic is completely free from such stuff. The truth is, sickly-sweet stories are more frequently scanlated than series like Miyori no Mori or Namakemono no Scuba Diving.

Pardon me for prolixity. I have been always wondering why people are so swift to jump at conclusions.

I don't hate shoujo and i like it , but it's not the favorite genre of anime/manga , cauz im kind of a sports genre maniac xD
I like shoujo cauz most of the time it has either drama or romance or even both in it , pretty much the only reason i read them besides that the drawing is most of the time kinda nice if you take that into account

I don't hate shoujo but I do hate them sometimes especially ones like "Peach Girl" just to much drama and it went over the top with the drama so it made me feel like killing somebody.

I wouldn't know, my experience with it is limited due to the horrible art found in most shojo.

No way! I like shoujo, at least some of it! 😀 Ok there are a lot of stories which are cheesy and overall absurd, but mahou shoujo for example is just so relaxing to watch, no need to think anything plus I like fantasy. Maybe nowadays I watch more other genres but shoujo doesn't bother me.

Both.
At times, I like it. Others, I can't stand it XD
The ones I can't stand is when it goes like this:
It's mainly with the typical-cliche-openers, with the girl thinking about the guy she likes, and they get together practically ten pages later XD. Then the jealous girl comes in, so on and so on.

I like Shoujo's with a plot, and well, actual character development.
Examples of ones I like would be Kimi ni Todoke (and yes, I am well aware of the "jealous girl" in it).
