Just to clear a misunderstanding, we never got to see Ren in the future chapters. Yes, they talked about a Ren, but the Ren they were talking about was Satsuki's brother, Takumi and Hachi's other child. He was named after Ren. I don't know for certain if he's Hachi's child though. Might be Reira's? or maybe even Shins? I think he looked pretty much like Shin. I don't know, haha... but oh well, back to topic... I kinda expected this to happen after reading those future shots because they talked about Ren as if he was dead, so I wasn't surprised. Well, I was actually, just a little. I was surprised at the fact that it happened so soon, right on Nana's 21st birthday.

No, Ren's definitely Takumi and Hachi's son. At first, it was made out to be Layla's child. But Layla called him "the/that boy" and Takumi later on talked about Nana possibly taking Ren away from him (from the looks of it, Takumi has Ren's custody, and Hachiko Satsuki's).

Ai Yazawa, I admire her for these recent amazing plot twists. Lulling us into a false sense of comfort knowing Ren's okay when it was meant for Hachi's son anyway. But really, there was enough foreshadowing in it if you think back. DX

Someone please refute this and show us a manga page of Ren alive in the future. ;__; Though that was just Shin. X_X

But this is too much. Weaving us a silk cocoon and then suddenly forcing us out when it's still wet. ;__;

Ren didn't get much a build up in the manga, especially considering that he's supposed to be the love interest of the other main character, so I'm not too torn up over it. Besides why the was he driving so fast anyway?

OMG what happened in ch78 sucked! Why did the author do that?
What else do we have to look forward to now? There can never be a happy ending for Nana now with the love of her life DEAD. That's it, I'm not gonna read this manga anymore. What ever happens next, I just know it'll make me depress.

To the person who said he/she admires the mangaka for the "plot twists": Well, I'm going to try and be nice. What you call "plot twists" are just random ideas on how to cause both the reader and the characters the maximum amount of pain. They aren't clever nor imaginative. Anybody who still reads this manga, or anything from this mangaka are masochist. There's just no other way to explain why people would enjoy reading such a story. Though I keep up with the story, I now do it just to laugh at how many of my predictions are coming true, and laugh at all the people getting depressed and crying over such trash.

It was kinda indicated from long before that

Ren will die so it wasnt a real surprise to me. Everything does add up...I also went through the misunderstanding that Hachi and Nobu were talking about ! the real Ren and then found out that that was Ren the kid . If you read any of Ai Yazawa's stuff, she rarely writes happy happy mangas- in fact I store her stuff in my HDD under the name of "Tragic Ai Yazawa" 😛 ...My only hope and I knw I am being selfish is that Reira and Takumi dont rekindle their relationship...and am cross fingeredly hoping ! Little Ren is Hachi and Takumi's child.

There isnt any custody issue between Takumi and Hachi coz they might be separated but they arent divorced though each might be toying with the idea. It is indicated that little Ren just doesnt want to leave England which is why he's staying with his dad whose staying there for his work and Hachi wont leave Japan coz she expects that Honjo Nana might come back to their 707 apartment

I was really sad to see Ren die but she kinda prepared us for it with the future scenes. For those who are to sad to continue don't give up on this manga there still could be a happy ending after all its about the friendship of the two Nana's. Also boy was I happy to find out both of those children was Takumi and Hatchi, I also can not stand Reira, because if she had not left Ren would not have followed >:-(

Join the club sister, but I somehow cant ignore the odd thing that

little Ren doesnt seem to miss his mom, an odd thing for a boy for his age and Hachi has never asked to speak to little Ren on the fone.In fact, little Ren seems more attached to Reira rather than Hachi.

i loved this manga but my fav couple are just in the past

what i hated the MOST was

ok Ren died, it kills me a lill inside , yeah a character not even a person but whatever!! he was my fav character
if she was pretending to kill him, damn he died without even seeing Nana first! in Nana's BIRTHDAY! and he didnt have a son for Gods Sake, that was one of the things he wanted the most!

I don't think Ren is dead.
Here are the reasons:

Vol. 17 Chapt 26 Page 15 "Every year...i pray....for the night when Nana and Ren can meet again."
Vol. 18 chp 66 Page 20. " Wasn't Hachi saying she thought it was Ren who secretly put the package into her mailbox?"

Also, we never got to see his body. Only his hands. His face was too damaged. In the car there were two people right? Him and the driver guy. They could have made a mistake somehow when they identified the body.

This could also be my wishful thinking though. I really don't want him to die. I really love his character. I have a feeling Nana is about to end soon. Prob 1 or 2 more volumes.

mmh i WISH that but in the car... there was only Ren there ...

and the fact that

Well I always viewed Ren and Nana like Sid and Nancy. They both met a tragic fate at the end. Especially Sid, who lived longer than Nancy for a bit before his death. OH NO! I hope that its not coming down that way. 😔
