I'd like to read some scanlated 1970s shoujo manga. What are the best ones out there?
I've already read the following:
Rose of Versailles
Glass Mask
Kaze to Ki no Uta
Georgie!
Candy Candy
Poe no Ichizoku

More recent manga done in the 1970s shoujo style is good too, if such a thing exists.

Try YAMATO Waki's works, though I don't know how many of them are scanlated or licenced.

Oniisama E is fully scanlated if you like this mangaka.

Thanks, I've been trying to get into shoujo-ai but I just can't stand most modern takes on it, so I've been looking for some good classic ones. ^^ That manga looks adorable. Saaailor suit! o_o

70s :
From Eroica with Love
The Heart of Thomas
To Terra... (actually shounen, but it's created by Takemiya Keiko so the style is very shoujoish)
Natsu e no tobira
Claudine
Patalliro
They Were 11 (and other stories in Four shoujo stories)

anime (fansubbed): The Star of Cottonland. Sadly the manga isn't scanlated yet.

in short, watch out this list : http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=35290

Thanks for the list - especially The Heart of Thomas! I started reading that one a long time ago but couldn't for the life of me remember the title. I was just about to start a thread asking about it, actually. ^^

I can't be of much help, since I know that you've probably read mostly everything I could possibly recommend, and most if not all of the shoujo I was thinking of reccing were actually early/mid/late 80s (or sometimes a little later) instead of 1970s, and/or were already on your reading lists (Like Boyfriend (Souryo Fuyumi), Banana Fish, Cesare...).

Since I can't think of any really good 70s manga that everyone else hasn't already recommended, I hope it's all right to just mention some with styles reminiscent of the 70s.

Kaguya hime by Shimizu Reiko (who wrote Himitsu, which is amazing and already on your list; I think you actually recommended it to me once upon a very long time ago) is very interesting. Another series she wrote called Moonchild is... different but also interesting.

Most manga by Miura Noriko have a distinct style that is both rather unique and vintage-looking. Her plotlines sound basic but usually end up seeming fresh and intriguing, and they always have lovely characters.

You seem to have already read a lot of Hagio Moto's works, so I won't recommend anything else by her, but all of her works fit the bill, even her most recent, Zankoku na Kami ga Shihai suru. Her collection of oneshots, A, A', was almost but not quite written in the 70s.

Tamura Yumi (Basara, 7 Seeds, etc.) also has a similar style and writes lovely stories.

I'm terribly sorry if you've already read/dropped all of these! I tried to look through all your lists, but I have a flickering attention span on the best of days. will continue to wrack her brains

Ashita no Ousama maybe, even though it was written in the'90's, the style still looks old, so maybe you'll like it anyway.
