Would it be possible to implement an option to only list the manga that are not currently on any list (reading, on hold, wish, custom, etc.)?

I use the genre search option a lot, but I really don't see the need to list manga that I've already set as completed, reading, etc. That's what the "My Lists" section is for.

I suppose I should ask this also since it has also been kind of bothersome. Why is there no "Incest" genre? I believe it would help those who are in favor of incest and those who are disgusted by it.

Maybe 'in favor' was a bad word choice though.

One more thing... is gore/guro included in the "Horror" genre? When I think of horror while searching... it usually has nothing to do with Gore/Guro. Ghost Hunt (which isn't really scary though) would fit Horror. Elfen Lied which also has a "Horror" genre seems like it would benefit more from Gore/Guro. Many adult & hentai manga also fall prey to this. They're more Ero Guro(which would possibly be a search for Adult or Hentai & Gore/Guro than Horror).

  1. Not really that important, you could always just skip over them, what's a couple of extra pages(if it even gets that long).

2.What is with people and Incest? 🤣

  1. No comment on the Gore...maybe because the act of mutilation is scary to people and involves things like horror/suspense thriller.

I agree that horror and guro should be seperated. Horror is part of my favorite literature but guro is just sick and something I greatly avoid. It's like putting smut and hentai into the same pot: completely different audience.

Gore is a different term and can fit both. Even a 'normal' manga can contain gore without being either of them. Many seinen manga fit such a criteria but I don't think it needs a genre tag of it's own.

Generally, such things like incest, gore or heavy violence are warnings to me, not genre. They belong in the description unless MU adds some kind of 'warning tags' for this purpose. But I see no real need for it since, so far, most summaries I came across had the warnings included.

I disagree. It would be quite useful for me, as I have a lot on my lists. To look for new series to read, I won't be looking at the stuff on my lists, so to exclude them would save me a lot of excess clicking. I have 4352 series on my lists, which comes out to a bit more than a couple of extra pages (at least 44, 'cause that's at the highest "per page" view, 100). [Digression: 2204 of the series on my lists are on my blacklist, which I have made, obviously, to avoid the series that I have already looked at, decided I didn't want to read, and want to avoid ever clicking on again. It would be very useful for me to be able to not show the series on this list, and to have the option of not showing any series on any of my lists accomplishes this quite well--and more, even.]
Now, based on the way you said it, it seems like most people have fewer than 200 series on their lists, so I may be an outlier. Thus it may be less useful, as you have said, for most people, but, well, I thought I'd give my opinion anyways...

About gore/guro, I agree that it's not just horror, but it kinda already falls under the "mature" genre here, so something meant to be scary but that also is guro should be labeled "horror" and "mature" under the genre field. Although, guro for the sake of guro (also extreme heavy violence) is different than just graphic violence, so... well, making a warning tag or something might be a good idea. But, like eni said, most guro manga has a warning written in the description anyway, which is good. It means that you have to click on them and read the description, though, so you can't really filter them from the list altogether, which is a feature that would be nice. It's nothing too major though.

I never really said it was useless, extra features are always nice, just not as important to most people as most have smaller lists and the number of titles on that list are reduced when you filter out genres. But seeing as you've got 2000+ titles on your list, especially since they're blacklisted I'll have to take that back...

It works exactly as I hoped it would with no ill effects that I could see.

This will be a feature that I will use multiple times a day and I hope that other users will find it to be a useful addition to the site.

Being the genre enthusiast that I am, this feature will help me find things I have not already marked down without needing to worry about skipping something due to the check marks and other little icons.

Thanks for adding this. Also, lol @ the incest thing. I read the threads and I can understand why it wasn't added; although, I doubt I'll be the last to ask about it.

Awesome! ;D I should go try it out after my mood swings are over. 🙂

Once again, another reason why MangaUpdates rocks. 😉

Any reason why this feature was removed? Felt unnecessary? :x

Nah, there was a slight mix-up in file versions when I was updating some behind-the-scenes stuff. It's back now
