So I've been noticing for the past few weeks that KNT has been in the top ten... but why?? It's just another regular girl loves beautiful boy shoujo.. is it coz of the anime which is airing ?

Why shouldn't it be on top? I mean, it's not even as cliche as you make it out to be. Kazehaya is a normal, but popular boy. He's not the sparkly bishounen you find in most shoujo cliche's.

I for one am very glad that it is in the top ten. A somewhat refreshing yet adorable heroine is what every shoujo fanatic needs.

The anime is another thing. I find it quite lovely, especially since there's motion and sound.

It is probably because of the anime that is out and people who were watching the anime decided to pick up the manga.
[" looks at self"]

Personally have no problem with it being in the top 10, I been pleasantly surprised by the anime and it's charm and reading the manga hasn't been a disappointment either.

In shoujo terms, it's not a bad series.

Kimi ni Todoke is actually very cliche, and it's very shoujo.

But it's a refreshing series, and I do know for a fact that most who read shoujo mangas really like KnT especially now that an anime is airing.

Heh, I dunno, I read many shoujo's and I don't find it to be very cliché :\

The anime is brilliant, so it's probably attracting some manga attention as well...and by the looks of it, a whole lot of attention 🤣

And btw, yuri999, Kimi ni Todoke is not "another regular girl loves beautiful boy shoujo". Sawako isn't really in love with Shouta at the start. Saying that would imply that she was going for him way at the start - which she didn't. She only admired him for being able to socialize well. She only realizes that she likes him later on.

When you look at it from the outside, it's really cliche.
But once you read it, it has a lot of differences from normal shoujo manga.
First of all, the heroine isn't that pretty. No, we're not talking about the ridiculously cute shoujo heroine who thinks she's ugly.
This heroine actually tries to change and has CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.
The main guy character is not some little prince bad boy either, like most shoujo manga. He's a nice guy who actually does like the girl.
It's been what, 6 volumes? They're still not together yet. That is amazingly different in itself. 🤣
So you can say that it has a cliche story, but the way it's being told and developed isn't.
It's a good manga.

its at the top because up until about a month ago when the anime came out, there had been no groups actively scanning it.

thus as the anime came out there was a bigger demand for it, so it road that wave and more people became interested in the manga aswell

I guess not. 😃

But I really do find the series to be very nice, I've only read to about... uhm, volume 7? And keeps on getting interesting by the volume. 🤣

Didn't Fateful Encounters (now Loyal Kiss) release KnT? I mean, yeah... they didn't release every week, but at least they did it with not that long of a gap.

So what if it's a regular girl likes boy story?
So what if it's cliche?

Do those matter if you enjoy reading/watching it?
I think people here are making too much of a fuss.

Take for example, Gundam SEED and Code Geass. Uses a lot of similar themes:

-mecha
-rebellion and war
-friends on opposing factions.
-female leads that have a high social status
-the male leads have some sort of power.
-and the list goes on

Despite of these cliches. Although Code Geass uses a lot of cliche's, it's the way that Code Geass is told that makes it great.

I think a big part of the reason was 'cause the groups that had been scanning it (entropy and dragon voice) dropped it 'cause it got licensed, and nobody wanted to delve into that.

I agree with everyone else: the really solid development beats out the cliches, which are only problematic when the author tries to make them (instead of character development and plot) the driving force in the story.

Kimi Ni Todoke is a pretty amazing story imo. I guess it's the simpleness, the character designs and the art that put me at calm. I really enjoy reading the series. It's very soothing.

Kimi Ni Todoke is really better than normal girl meets boys series. It won the Best Shōjo Manga award in the 32nd Annual Kodansha Manga Award and was nominated for the first Manga Taisho awards in 2008. It is also one of the top series people want to be seen made into a drama. Maybe the western audience has caught on? But I actually thought it was pretty popular before. It just wasn't being updated as often.

I agree that the simplicity of the story and the story itself keeps it on top. I didn't expect to like it after expecting the cliches but I really do. Someone else said relaxing, I agree. I think it's because everyone can relate to the characters
