Here are the Vocaloid song's lyrics translated into English for those who are interested. They leave room for some interpretation concerning the main characters' relationship:

GUMI: Shiryoku Kensa/ Eye Examination

*In your left eye that you've covered,
just what does my reflection look like?
With only your right eye that's not covered,
you won't be able to see the true me.

Eye examination. I smile mischievously through your double vision.
Don't forget that there is a fake version of me within you.

Let me know by pointing your finger.
You can see from your eyes, can't you?
If you can dimly visualize
the crevices of my heart,
then please, feel free
to close your eyes. I don't mind.

I want to correct your vision
so that you can love me correctly.
With those overused old glasses of yours,
you won't be able to see the true me.

Eye examination. I smile with a sad look as I disappear.
Don't forget that there is a true version of me within you.

We can do no more than to believe
what we see through our eyes.
You and I are the same.
Because of that, at least for now,
print onto your heart
the me that you do not know about.

The scenery we saw back then
became less and less visible.
Which one of us changed?
Was it you, or was it me?

Let me know by pointing your finger.
You can see from your eyes, can't you?
If you can dimly visualize
the crevices of my heart,
then with your hand placed on my bosom,
I will tell you
about the true me.*
