I need Japanese-to-English translators with an interest in BL. We will be working on several manga series with mild shounen ai content. If explicit content worries you, don't worry; these stories contain kisses, semi-nude bishounen and homoerotic humor, but nothing else.
I mean. Uh. Nothing hardcore.
These are old-fashioned BL series from the 70s, featuring everything from hilarious gay comedy to swashbuckling angst. If you're familiar with the work of Yasuko Aoike, the mastermind behind From Eroica With Love, you'll know what I'm talking about. The high camp and glitter of the seventies gay scene is brought to life, along with several historical characters and criminals in disguise.
If you haven't seen Aoike's art before, here are a few full-color examples:
Beautiful man performing car-wash.
Another beautiful man in a toga.
Several young men in a seafaring romance.
These images are pure propaganda, but they do give you some idea of the material you'll be working with.
EYE CANDY, PEOPLE! How can you resist? 😀
If you have skills other than translating (such as editing or image manipulation) that would be great, but it certainly isn't necessary. What we really need is an expert translator. (Or two. Three, even!) The dialogue we're dealing with is subtle and full of subtext, so it needs someone who is comfortable with both English and Japanese. Prior experience with scanslating is not required, although we'd certainly welcome it.
We also won't turn down people with other areas of expertise. This is a new group, so as long as you're a dedicated performer, you're welcome in any capacity.
Are you interested in scanslating gorgeous old skool BL? If you are, then lemme know! Just in case you'd rather not reply here, you can always email me personally (miss.paraphilia@gmail.com). In fact, emailng me is probably a better idea, because we can yak to our hearts' content.
Yakking about BL! Do it. You know you want to...

Um, I just wanted to add that if you want any further information here on the forum, feel free to ask. The gist is that a translator is needed for Yasuko Aoike's work.
The timeframe is flexible, which means that it's okay you aren't available right now but will be after some time. (Like, if you're currently working on another project, or are having a busy time in RL.)
Translators are a rare and precious breed, so I'm perfectly willing to work around your schedule. Just let me know what's convenient for you.
Thanks!
