The Bechdel Test is a measure of the representation of women in fiction. It asks whether a story:

  1. Has at least two women in it
  2. Who talk to each other
  3. About something besides a man

However, due to the nature of BL, which primarily focuses on male-male relationships, it's not common to find BL titles that pass the Bechdel Test.

In the spirit of yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi... there's not much room for other character development, but it's also valid that with two male leads, there wouldn't be much of an opportunity for two peripheral characters to talk to each other, much less about something other than the two main characters.

Uh, and I've got none, despite the concerning amount of BL I have read. I thought Red Hood (a fantasy world that has two female party members) and Super Darling is Dead (has a lesbian couple that stays in the same gay sharehouse) checked out, but I just read them to check, and they don't!

So, help me out here? Maybe some of those older multi-volume series? Do you know any BL that passes the Bechdel Test?

Damn, despite also being a BL fiend (and a big fan of women, categorically 😂) this was really hard.
iiuc Perfect Buddy passes as some of the female coworkers discuss what to order at a company dinner. For a BL, the female representation is actually pretty good in everything from their character design to the writing.
Midnight Men also writes women really well but I can't find evidence of it actually passing the test 🙃

Ooh, such an interesting topic.

I racked my brain, and all the BLs that came to mind either featured all men, or only one female, then the only one that I can think of, that featured 2 women talking about something other than a man is

I think this one might qualify.

I was thinking about this the other day actually, lol
.
Here are some that I know of:

  • Traces of the Sun
  • Robber x Lover
  • XXX Buddy
  • Etranger series
  • Worth the Wait
  • Therapy Game Restart
  • Who Can Define Popularity?
  • You Get Me Going
  • It's Just a Dream...Right?!
  • The Pizza Delivery Man and the Gold Palace
  • 다사다난
  • 뉴비 키워서 갈아먹기

This really is so hard.

I am 99% sure that A Cruel God Reigns passed the test but it is a Josei manga with gay themes. I remember the secondary character Nadia talking to named women about her life.

New York New York 100% passed on the basis of let´s say the last chapter where the grandmother talks to her adopted granddaughter about her period but it is Shoujo.

Wouldn´t be surprised if Bronze passed too. Loveless passed due to a lesbian grouping. Etc.

Finding traditionally published manga with queer themes that pass the test can´t be too hard. That´s all my comment is about. Full on Yaoi though? Yeah... Finding such Bara? That´s playing Dark Souls with bongo drums hard.
